2006 CALENDAR OF EVENTS

A HOLIDAY MARKET OF FINE ART, CRAFTS, FOOD AND GIFTS

The Del Ray Artisans’ Fine Art & Fine Crafts Holiday Market will be the place to go this holiday season to find everything you need to celebrate—exquisite gifts created by members, festive baked goods to indulge your sweet-tooth, artisan-designed ornaments and lots of good fun!

The festivities (and sales of fine art!) will begin Friday evening, December 1st, with a Preview reception from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, December 2nd, the gallery will open at 10 a.m. and extend its evening hours through the Tree lighting next door as Del Ray celebrates Holiday on the Avenue. Sunday, December 3rd, hours are noon to 5 p.m.

In conjunction with the Market, our annual Gift Food Sale will tempt you with seasonal treats—a great chance to share your holiday favorites and find new ones, too! Proceeds go to support DRA's Katrina Relief efforts for the artists of Hancock County, Mississippi. Donations of baked goods are needed. Questions? Contact Theresa Kulstad at tkulstad@verizon.net.

DRA MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS

We thank those of you who have already renewed your membership this year, even though there has been no renewal letter sent out for memberships that expired on 6/30/06. Memberships only expire at the end of June or the end of December.

In case you are not aware, DRA had a mid-year change in Membership Chairs, and there was no one actually in place when the renewal letters would have gone out... ….therefore, we are asking you to accept this notice as this year's "renewal notice" and look at your mailing label to determine whether or not you need to renew at this time.

If you have any questions about your expiration date noted on your label, please contact current Membership Co-Directors Mara Burk at maraburk@hotmail.com, Jennifer Webb at Mdjm5660@aol.com or
Asst. Treasurer Kathryn Brown.

DONATIONS TO TED EICHERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Long time DRA member and former Board of Director Vivienne Lukacs' beloved husband of 53 years, Richard Lukacs, passed away October 5th, 2006. Donations in his name can be made to DRA’s Ted Eichers Memorial Art Fund which supplements a local art student’s college tuition costs.

Eichers Fund donations, cards and other expressions of sympathy for Vivienne and the Lukacs family may be sent in care of the DRA gallery.

PEER CRITIQUE AT DEL RAY ARTISANS

Do you ever wish you had a group of friends with whom you are comfortable asking for honest and constructive feedback? Well you do—The Del Ray Artisans!

Join us Sunday, November 12th from 5-8 p.m. in the DRA gallery. Bring a couple pieces, complete or in progress, that you’d like to
discuss and receive constructive criticism from your peers.

The facilitator will keep things moving and ensure all feedback is constructive. For more information, please contact Michele Reday Cook at mredaycook@mac.com or Daniel Wise at danlwise@verizon.net.

SEEKING HOLIDAY MARKET ELVES

Plans for the DRA Holiday Market are well underway and we are looking for members to help in all aspects of this fun event, including: poster/postcard distributions, decorations, bake sale staff, preview reception, and more. What a festive way to earn those volunteer hours!

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Barb Boehm at 703.838.6265 or barbxb@yahoo.com

A GENTLE REMINDER TO EXHIBITING ARTISTS

The Board would like to remind all exhibiting artists about the scheduled pick-up time given at the end of a show. We try to make it clear on each Call for Entry that pick-up is to begin after the end of gallery hours on the last day of the show. Typically (although this is not a guarantee for all shows), pick-up is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. on the last day of the show, and sometimes on the Monday following.

We bring this to your attention because we have experienced a great deal of trouble in the last few shows with artists wanting to pick up their works before 4:00 p.m. on the last day, and even as early as the day before. Please don't expect to sit the gallery on the Saturday prior to the Sunday, which is the last day of the show, and expect to save a trip by taking your work home then!

We do not do this to be punitive... we do it for the same reason that we ask purchasers not to take the art they have paid for before the end of the show—so that any one who comes to see the show, even on the last day, actually gets to see the show in its entirety! Many empty spaces on the walls make us look very unprofessional, and you deprive yourself (and others) from having your work viewed in an exhibit professionally hung.

In any show, if you are not able to come at the scheduled times, it is your responsibility to call the curator, prior to those times, in order to schedule another time, or make arrangements with family or friends to come during the scheduled times. We are sorry that there are limitations, but please remember that they are in place for all of our benefit.
