Call for Entry: For the Artist (Due Tomorrow!)
Digital entries due: Saturday, February 16 by midnight. Complete that piece that has been bugging you, calling to you, and has been on your New Year’s resolution list several years running. Although this is a thematically open show, we challenge artists to reach into that wish list and create the special piece you’ve dreamed of doing. Open only to Del Ray Artisans members. Member Meeting & Art Supplies Swap (This Weekend!)
Sunday, February 17 from 4-6 pm. Dig out those unused art supplies and bring them to the annual Art Supplies Swap! If you bring something, you get to take new treasures home! Light refreshments will be served, and upcoming exhibits and events will be discussed. At the event, we will also be gathering art supplies for Inspiration Matterz. So, check your stash and see if there are any items that could be useful to the cause—especially these much-needed items. See you Sunday at the gallery! Workshop: Playing with Resin (Sold out!)
Tuesday, February 19 from 6-9 pm. Come play with resin in a safe environment – learn the ins & outs of mixing resin and using it in your artwork —as an adhesive, a covering, or the main medium. There’s lots of creative time during this 3-hour workshop … no need to rush which is one of the first lessons in using resin! You’ll leave your finished masterpiece(s) to set at the gallery at the end of the workshop, but you’ll be able to pick them up during gallery hours later in the week. This workshop is full. New Beginnings Art Exhibit
Runs through Sunday, February 24. The EPA estimates 75% of waste is recyclable, but only 30% is. Visit Del Ray Artisans gallery to see artwork created by reuse. Workshop: Introduction to Acrylic Painting
Saturday, March 9 from 1-4pm. This workshop will cover the basic principles for working with acrylic paints, including paint and tool selection, surface preparation, mixing and more. Participants will perform some basic color, shade, and tint mixing. Instructor Jeff Lodge will demonstrate mixing, application techniques as well as some special tips and tricks with this medium. Urban Sketchbooking
Sunday, March 10 from 2-4pm. Urban Sketchbooking emphasizes storytelling that conveys a sense of place or a moment in time through drawings completed from direct observations. Drop-in meetings, during the afternoons of the second Sunday of each month. No need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us to produce still life, figure, or architecture subjects in your sketchbook. The fee for each 2-hour session is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. For the Artist Art Exhibit Opening Reception
Friday, March 1 from 7-9pm. The For The Artist exhibit features artworks that Del Ray Artisans members have always dreamed of creating. The diversity of expression and creativity in this exhibit is inspiring to artists and art appreciators alike. Two and three-dimensional works, paintings, mixed media, and photography are showcased. Need support reaching your art related goals? Join this collegial group of artists to share your goals and get feedback on artwork. All local artists, from beginners to professionals, and all skill levels are invited. Meetings include discussions on exhibit opportunities, the creative process and the local art scene. Participants may also bring in 1-3 artworks, in any medium, in any stage, to discuss goals, process, and ask for advice. Free, donations ($1-3) greatly appreciated. Workshop: Calligraphy and the Creative Stroke
Saturday, March 16 from 1-4pm. Learn the basic strokes of script calligraphy using a pointed pen and ink, as well as a brush marker. Bring a short saying or quote to work with. Instructor: Jenny Nicholson. Cost: $45 members / $55 non-members; plus $15 supply fee. The supply fee covers penholder and nib, brush pen, paper, and handouts for you to take home. The web posting team needs you! We're looking for a volunteer to post exhibit and event information to Northern Virginia Magazine and/or Eventful Culture. Exhibitors wanted: 2019 Sidewalk Show Sale
Deadline: March 8. The Sidewalk Art Show takes place annually in Roanoke, Virginia on the downtown streets near the Taubman Museum of Art. This annual benefit infuses downtown Roanoke with energy, excitement, and creativity, attracting 10,000 shoppers over the weekend! Scheduled for June 1-2, 2018. Submission categories include: original paintings, prints, watercolors, etchings, mixed media, photography, fine craft and sculpture. More information

Call for Artists: Art on the Avenue 2019
Deadline: April 1 for early application. Art on the Avenue is a multi-cultural arts festival celebrating our community’s diversity through the arts in the Del Ray neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia. This festival will be held rain or shine on October 5, 2019. Early application to Art on the Avenue is due April 1, 2019. The fee for show participation is $200 if you apply by April 1st and $225 after April 1st. More information
