Speed dating

Speed Dating at the Gallery

Saturday, October 25 from 8-10pm. Join us for an evening of awesome art viewing and fun conversations! The evening will start at 8pm with viewing art from the Metamorphosis show, mingling and conversation over light refreshments. Only $10 per person. Halloween Costume Ball

Friday, October 31 from 8-11pm. Join us at the gallery for the Halloween Costume Ball, an evening of merriment, mystery and madness among art! Tickets: $5 each or 5 for $20. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Sunday, October 19 from 9:30-11:30am (Gesture)
  • Wednesday, October 22 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Poses, clothed)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. All Creatures Great and Small Art Exhibit at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter

Show runs through October 26 at the shelter. Del Ray Artisans and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria present our first animal-themed art exhibit on the walls of the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter (4101 Eisenhower Ave, Alexandria VA). Shelter hours for adoption and viewing are: Monday-Thursday 12-7pm, Friday closed, and Saturday-Sunday 12-5pm. Proceeds from the exhibit support the artist, Del Ray Artisans, and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. DelRayArtisans.org/AWLA

Donation Drive: Drop off donations of blankets and towels at the animal shelter year-round or at Del Ray Artisans gallery through October 26.


Three Artists, Three Visions Art Exhibit at Prudential PenFed Realty

Show runs through October 31 at Prudential PenFed Realty. Del Ray Artisans and Prudential PenFed Realty present the artwork of Wendy Band, Sharon Frey, and Linda Lowery in the small group show: "Three Artists, Three Visions". Metamorphosis! Art Exhibit

Metamorphosis is a juried art exhibit featuring work by local artists demonstrating how change can be positive, negative, frightening, or enlightening; metaphorical or physical. The exhibit also includes the Mask-erpiece Silent Auction—artful, wearable masks created by artists. The silent auction runs from October 3-18. The show runs through November 2. Partners in Art

Monday, November 10 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then, come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. This program is free of charge and open to all. Donations ($1–3) greatly appreciated. Art and Story art exhibit at the Shirlington Library

Show runs through November 30 at the Shirlington Library (4200 Campbell Avenue, Arlington VA). Del Ray Artisans’ Gallery Without Walls program presents artworks illustrating the power of art and story, with a portion of each sale benefiting the Friends of Shirlington Library and Del Ray Artisans. Art in City Hall 2014-2015

Art in City Hall is a collaborative program of the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, the Office of the Arts, The Art League, Del Ray Artisans, and the Torpedo Factory Arts Center. The exhibit is located in Alexandria City Hall (2nd floor, 300 King St, Alexandria VA). Hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. The current exhibit runs through January 16, 2015. Del Ray Artisans' Cookbook Fundraiser (Call for Recipes & Artwork)

Deadline extended. Submit your digital entries ASAP. Inspired by the upcoming exhibit Nourish and Flourish: The Food Show (November 2014), Del Ray Artisans (DRA) is preparing a cookbook to sell during the holiday season and thereafter. Nourish and Flourish: The Food Show

Receiving: Sunday, Nov 2 and Monday, Nov 3 from 6-8pm. Art inspired by food—realistic or metaphorical, but worthy of tasting, savoring, and digesting. We invite artists to create art that reflects the ways food influences us all, how we gather it, prepare it, and consume it, as we gather around the table. Archives/Documentation

  • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact John at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photographers Needed to Document Shows
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of each piece of artwork in a show (as well as some overall gallery shots) for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Contact John at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org

Communications

  • Post our Events on assigned Online Calendars
    Post approved DRA publicity materials on a specific online calendar. Each volunteer will have one or two calendars to update; instructions will be given. Must have internet access. Contact Dawn at Technology@DelRayArtisans.org

Curating & Curator Support

  • Join the Curating Team!
    Volunteer to curate or assist a curator (hanging artwork, data entry / spreadsheets, distributing postcards, people skills). Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Help Curators design their Postcard
    Postcards contain the vital show information: show title, dates, reception information, any special events and other information the curators wish to highlight. Help curators put together this file for the printer. Must have access to software capable of creating printer-ready files (e.g. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and be able to email documents. Helpful skills: creative design, content proofing. Contact Lesley at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org

Gallery and Grounds

  • Adopt-a-Park: Pick Up Litter
    Del Ray Artisans volunteers pick-up litter in Colasanto Park which a part of the City of Alexandria's Adopt-a-Park program. Inspections are on Mondays, so Sunday is the best pick-up day but not a hard rule. We only have three weekends remaining that we need volunteers: November 15-16, 22-23, and 29 -30. Thank you to the Adopt-a-Park angels who have helped make this season a success. If you are interested in assisting, contact Marlin with your preferred weekend(s) at AdoptAPark@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Garden Clean Up
    Seeking volunteers to help with clean up and weeding of the gardens at the gallery. Contact Pamela at Gardens@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Misc Gallery Care Tasks
    Please let the Officer Manager know if you can help with occasional tasks on an as needed basis. Tasks could include doing laundry, sewing, or Low-key interior facilities tasks. For details, contact Tracy at Gallery@DelRayArtisans.org

Pastel Workshop: “Citiscapes” by Alan Flattmann, hosted by Pastel Society of Virginia

Deadline: Friday, October 31. Filling fast! If openings remain, registration through Oct 31. The Pastel Society of Virginia is hosting New Orleans Master Pastelist Alan Flattmann, who is featuring Citiscapes. It is our annual Veteran's Day weekend workshop at Franconia Government Center in Alexandria November 7-10, Friday evening through Monday afternoon. Fee include 2014-2015 PSV membership, lunches, snacks, three days of instruction, and one evening of a meet and greet / book signing.
