Primary Colors Opening Reception

Friday, January 3 from 7-10pm. Curator Betsy Mead challenged Del Ray Artisans and all local-area artists to think outside the box in using basic red, yellow, and blue to create their compositions. The only restrictions are that artists must not tint or mix primary colors. Artists may use white and black to highlight, outline or lowlight objects in their compositions. In conjunction with the Primary Colors exhibit, we will feature the movie Primary Colors, a 1998 drama based on the novel Primary Colors: A Novel of Politics, a roman à clef about Bill Clinton's first presidential campaign in 1992. Movie night, at a suggested donation of $3 per person. is scheduled for Saturday, January 18th at 7pm.

All supplies will be provided, and some board games will be available to choose from. Fee (supplies included): $48 for Del Ray Artisans members & $53 for non-members. CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 12 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

  • Reception help for Holiday Market
Helpers are needed during the Holiday Market receptions on Friday nights (Dec 13 and Dec 20). We need various positions filled from 6-9pm. Please contact HolidayMarket@TheDelRayArtisans.org if you have any questions or would like to help.
  • Elves needed for Holiday Market Bake Sale
Help out at the Holiday Market Bake Sale on a Saturday or Sunday in December! Volunteers needed for 2-hour shifts on Saturday (Dec 14, Dec 21) from 10-12pm, 12-2pm or 2-4pm or Sunday (Dec 15, Dec 22) from 12-2pm or 2-4pm. All you have to do is be at the gallery during your shift (come early or stay late to shop!), put on a happy face, and sell baked goods to holiday shoppers! Please contact HolidayMarket@TheDelRayArtisans.org if you have any questions or would like to sign up for a shift.
  • Need fresh baked goodies for the Holiday Market Bake Sale!
Warm up your ovens and help make this the BEST EVER! We need cookies, brownies, muffins, loaves, cakes, candies - any of your favorite, homemade and delicious holiday goodies. Food donations MUST be individually packaged AND priced when dropped off because we do not have the materials needed to package them at the gallery. You can drop off baked goods on Thursdays (Dec 12, Dec 19) from 12-8pm; Fridays (Dec 13, Dec 20) from 12-9pm or Saturday mornings (Dec 14, Dec 21). Proceeds from the Bake Sale will benefit the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
  • Event Photography
Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Lesley at Volunteers@TheDelRayArtisans.org.
  • Record DRA Phone Messages
Volunteer to record DRA phone messages once a month. This requires someone with a clear voice to edit 2 different messages each month, preferably a week before the Opening Reception of the new show. It takes less than an hour each month and can be done from anywhere with phone access. You will receive training and notes from the current recorder. Contact Tracy at Gallery@TheDelRayArtisans.org.
  • Join Our Curator Support Team
Volunteer to assist a curator in January or February; offer your particular skill (press materials, hanging, spreadsheets, people skills) to a curator who needs it. Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley at Volunteers@TheDelRayArtisans.org.
  • Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval. Contact Lesley at Volunteers@TheDelRayArtisans.org.
  • The Garden is starting it's winter nap...
Thanks to all who have participated in the garden this year. Please consider using your volunteer time in the DRA Gardens next season. As the ground begins to warm in the spring we will continue our wholistic approach to weeding and growing. A butterfly garden is in the works. Come help with this new project. No experience necessary. Hours flexible. Contact Pamela Underhill at Underhill.Pamela@gmail.com or 703-507-4964.

Public Art Master Plan - Online Survey

The Plan will set priorities for the location and funding of projects; provide a framework for the shared financial and professional resources needed; and define the procedures for decision-making and oversight needed for public art projects to be successful. As part of the first stage of this planning process the City is gathering information from Alexandria residents.
