Life Drawing Open Sessions

  • Wednesday, November 20 from 6:30-9:30pm (long pose)
  • Monday, December 9 from 7:00-9:00pm (short pose)
  • Wednesday, December 11 from 11am-1pm (gesture)
  • Wednesday, December 11 from 1-2pm (Holiday Party)
  • Wednesday, December 11 from 2-5pm (short/long pose)
  • Wednesday, December 18 from 6:30-9:30pm (long pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Del Ray Dozen Invitational Photography Show

The work of thirteen photographers juried in: John Bordner, Kathryn Brown, Jen Chappell, Candace Clifford, Bill Coyle, Chris Fedderson, Barry Heyman, David Kosar, James Locke, Marlin Lord, Joe Minor, Rob Rudick, and Karen Thuermer. These select photographers approach their craft in different ways—as traditional film shooters, digital image-makers, darkroom junkies, print makers, and experimentalists. Holiday Market

3-Weekend Holiday Market!

Come to the receptions on Friday nights (Dec 6, Dec 13 and Dec 20) from 6-9pm serving goodies from local restaurants. Bring a friend or two, and treat yourself to holiday fare and shopping in a relaxed, festive atmosphere. The market features original, affordable works of art and handmade crafts ranging from pottery to fused glass to jewelry to fabric to photography. Different artists are featured each weekend, so come every weekend! Also open on Saturdays (Dec 7, Dec 14, Dec 21) from 10am-4pm and Sundays (Dec 8, Dec 15, Dec 22) from 12-4pm. Art in City Hall

Art in City Hall exhibit extended through January 3

The current Art in City Hall exhibit was recently extended to be on display through Friday, January 3, 2014. Art in City Hall is a collaborative program of the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, the Office of the Arts, The Art League, Del Ray Artisans and the Torpedo Factory Arts Center. CALL FOR ENTRY

Art in City Hall: Intersections of Art and History

Digital Submission Deadline: Friday, December 6 at 6pm. The Art League and the City of Alexandria, in conjunction with the Mayor's initiative to promote the arts citywide in Alexandria, continue to support Art in City Hall. This exhibit will be juried by an outside, independent expert in the arts, and will hang for seven months (1/4/2013–7/18/2014) on the second floor of the Alexandria City Hall. This exhibit will focus on the history and art of Alexandria from its founding in 1774 to the present day. Members of The Art League, Del Ray Artisans, the Torpedo Factory Artists' Association, Empowered Women International, and Convergence Art Center are invited to participate. Primary Colors

Receiving: Sunday, Dec 29 (4-6pm) & Monday, Dec 30 (5-8pm). This all-area, all-media show challenges you to think beyond the ordinary by creating compositions in the 3 primary colors: RED, YELLOW, BLUE - but NO MIXING! NO altering hue or value of the primaries by the addition of black, white, or color. You MAY use black or white to highlight or lowlight. You may use water or other colorless medium to thin or dilute the colors. Each artist may submit up to 2 pieces of art in any medium for the show. SPECIAL INVITATION

Public Art Master Plan Roundtable

Friday, November 22 from 9-10am. The City of Alexandria Office of the Arts is holding an artist roundtable to get thoughts, ideas, opinions, etc. from local artists and arts professionals about public art to help inform the Public Art Master Plan. The meeting will be held at the Target Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. This is the first in a series of roundtables used to gather information and opinions on the nature of the community, public space and community arts, as well as the character and use of valued community spaces in Alexandria. Artists working in the visual and performing arts, along with writers, gallery owners, designers, and curators are encouraged to attend. CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 12 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

  • Reception help for Holiday Market
    Helpers are needed during the Holiday Market receptions on Friday nights (Dec 6, Dec 13 and Dec 20). We need various positions filled from 6-9pm. Please contact HolidayMarket@DelRayArtisans.org if you have any questions or would like to help.
  • Elves needed for Holiday Market Bake Sale
    Help out at the Holiday Market Bake Sale on a Saturday or Sunday in December! Volunteers needed for 2-hour shifts on Saturday (Dec 7, Dec 14, Dec 21) from 10-12pm, 12-2pm or 2-4pm or Sunday (Dec 8, Dec 15, Dec 22) from 12-2pm or 2-4pm. All you have to do is be at the gallery during your shift (come early or stay late to shop!), put on a happy face, and sell baked goods to holiday shoppers! Please contact HolidayMarket@DelRayArtisans.org if you have any questions or would like to sign up for a shift.
  • Need fresh baked goodies for the Holiday Market Bake Sale!
    Warm up your ovens and help make this the BEST EVER! We need cookies, brownies, muffins, loaves, cakes, candies - any of your favorite, homemade and delicious holiday goodies. Food donations MUST be individually packaged AND priced when dropped off because we do not have the materials needed to package them at the gallery. You can drop off baked goods on Thursdays (Dec 5, Dec 12, Dec 19) from 12-8pm; Fridays (Dec 6, Dec 13, Dec 20) from 12-9pm or Saturday mornings (Dec 7, Dec 14, Dec 21). Proceeds from the Bake Sale will benefit the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
  • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Lesley at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Join Our Curator Support Team
    Volunteer to assist a curator in November or January; offer your particular skill (press materials, hanging, spreadsheets, people skills) to a curator who needs it. Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Reach Out for DRA!
    DRA is forming several small groups of volunteers to help coordinate our participation in community events. Sign up today for the: First Thursday Committee (May-Sep), Art on the Avenue Committee (October 5th event), or Community Requests Committee (ad hoc). Contact Amber at Outreach@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
    As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval.   • Help with the Gallery Garden
    Dig, weed, and learn other skills by professional landscape designer and artist, Pamela Underhill. No experience necessary. Meet weekdays or weekends for an hour or more. Call for Proposals: Outdoor sculpture

Call for Artist Vendors: Arlington Holiday Bazaar & Craft Fair

Applications due: November 22. Artisans and crafters bring your best to the NEW Wakefield High School at the corner of S George Mason Drive and South Dinwiddie Street (Arlington VA 22206). This free community event is on Saturday, December 14th from 10am-4pm. Vendor fees: Single Booth [8'x8'] $125 or Double Booth [16'x8'] $200; Electricity is an additional $20. Call for Entries: Artistic Artifacts Mixed Media Metallics Challenge

Entry deadline: November 23. All that glitters is not gold...it’s silver, and copper, and bronze too (not to mention the colors of patina and wear). Create a painting, art quilt, a collage, an assemblage, jewelry, an art doll — whatever you choose, using multiple techniques. Submissions must measure 8" x 10" or smaller.
