Life Drawing

Life Drawing Open Sessions

  • Monday, November 11, 7-9pm (short pose)
  • Wednesday, November 13, 6:30-9:30pm (long pose)
  • Wednesday, November 20, 6:30-9:30pm (long pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Art in City Hall

Art in City Hall (Spring 2013) exhibit ends November 15

The current Art in City Hall exhibit will be on display through Friday, November 15, 2013. Art in City Hall is a collaborative program of the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, the Office of the Arts, The Art League, Del Ray Artisans and the Torpedo Factory Arts Center. Del Ray Dozen Invitational Photography Show

Del Ray Dozen Invitational Photography Show

The work of thirteen photographers juried in: John Bordner, Kathryn Brown, Jen Chappell, Candace Clifford, Bill Coyle, Chris Fedderson, Barry Heyman, David Kosar, James Locke, Marlin Lord, Joe Minor, Rob Rudick, and Karen Thuermer. These select photographers approach their craft in different ways—as traditional film shooters, digital image-makers, darkroom junkies, print makers, and experimentalists. Holiday Market

18th Annual Holiday Market

Three weekends only: Dec 6-8, Dec 13-15, Dec 20-22. Fridays 6-9pm (reception), Saturdays 10am-4pm, Sunday 12-4pm. Handmade work from local artists, handmade ornaments, and Bake Sale items to benefit the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. Free admission. CALL FOR ENTRY

Call for Entry: Primary Colors

Receiving: Sunday, December 29 & Monday, December 30 from 6-8pm. This all-area, all-media show challenges you to think beyond the ordinary by creating compositions in the 3 primary colors: RED, YELLOW, BLUE - but NO MIXING! NO altering hue or value of the primaries by the addition of black, white, or color. You MAY use black or white to highlight or lowlight. You may use water or other colorless medium to thin or dilute the colors. Each artist may submit up to 2 pieces of art in any medium for the show. Fine handcraft 3D and shrink-wrapped 2D artwork also accepted into the market. Visit: DelRayArtisans.org/shows/calls/



CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 12 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

  • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Lesley at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Join Our Curator Support Team
    Volunteer to assist a curator in November or January; offer your particular skill (press materials, hanging, spreadsheets, people skills) to a curator who needs it. Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Reach Out for DRA!
    DRA is forming several small groups of volunteers to help coordinate our participation in community events. Sign up today for the: First Thursday Committee (May-Sep), Art on the Avenue Committee (October 5th event), or Community Requests Committee (ad hoc). Contact Amber at Outreach@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
    As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval.   • Help with the Gallery Garden
    Dig, weed, and learn other skills by professional landscape designer and artist, Pamela Underhill. No experience necessary. Meet weekdays or weekends for an hour or more. Call for Proposals: Outdoor sculpture

Beverly Hills Preschool is looking for a sculptor to create an outdoor sculpture for their new playground. Sculpture should reflect surroundings, be kid-safe, but not to play on. Use of natural or recycled materials encouraged. For information, contact: Jennifer Ware, BCHP at warejh@icloud.com


Seeking Volunteers for the City of Alexandria Public Art Committee

Applications due: Friday, November 8 by 5pm. The Alexandria Commission for the Arts is seeking volunteers who reside or work within the City of Alexandria to serve on the Public Art Committee. Two openings: (1) an individual with expertise in urban planning, landscape architecture and/or architecture; and (2) an individual who has strong interest in the arts. Volunteers should plan to devote 10-12 hours/month to Committee work. Committee meets on the 3rd Thursday each month at 7:30pm at the Durant Center (1605 Cameron St, Alexandria VA). VMFA Visual Arts Fellowships 2014-15

Application deadline: Friday, November 8, 2013. Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is now accepting applications for 2014-15 Visual Arts Fellowships. VMFA is committed to supporting professional artists as well as art and art history students who demonstrate exceptional creative ability in their chosen discipline. Award amount include: $8000 Professional artists, $6000 Graduate students in the visual arts or art history, and $4000 Undergraduate students in the visual arts (including college-bound high school seniors).
