Annual Member Meeting with Board Elections

THIS SUNDAY, October 20, 5-7pm. Join fellow members for the latest Del Ray Artisans news, pizza, a raffle drawing, and the election of next year's Board members. If you are interested in running for a Board position or have questions, contact the Nominating Committee (Tessa Barsic, Rusty Lynn, and Kathy Turner) at Nominations@DelRayArtisans.org. Even if you are not considering running for office, we still need your help to elect the new Board. Those attending will also be the first to witness the unveiling of our 2014 shows! Craft Night Social

Craft Night Social

Tuesday, October 22, 6-9pm. Bring in your own projects in progress and spend a few hours of uninterrupted time crafting. Meet other creative like-minded individuals as well. Open to knit / crochet / fiber arts, paper crafts / scrapbooking / stamping / card-making, sewing, jewelry, drawing, and general crafts. No wet media other than glue please. Each person will receive 2-3 feet of table space. Each 3-hour session is $8 for DRA members and $10 for non-members. Del-Ray-geous

Del-Ray-geous Art Exhibit Closing Reception with Awards

Sunday, October 27, 3-6pm. The Del-Ray-geous art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans showcases member artwork focused on the outrageous, fun, and unique parts of the Del Ray neighborhood and community. Awards for Best Represents Del Ray, Most Outrageous, Most Creative, People's Choice, and Curators' Choice will be given at the Closing Reception. Show runs through October 27. Del Ray Dozen Invitational Photography Show

Del Ray Dozen Opening Reception

Friday, November 1, 7-10pm. The work of thirteen photographers juried in: John Bordner, Kathryn Brown, Jen Chappell, Candace Clifford, Bill Coyle, Chris Fedderson, Barry Heyman, David Kosar, James Locke, Marlin Lord, Joe Minor, Rob Rudick, and Karen Thuermer. These select photographers approach their craft in different ways—as traditional film shooters, digital image-makers, darkroom junkies, print makers, and experimentalists. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Sunday, October 20 from 9:30am-11:30am (gesture)
  • Wednesday, October 23 from 2-5pm (short/long pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Partners in Art

Monday, October 21 from 2-4pm. Looking for support in reaching your art-related goals? Partners in Art is a group of artists that meets regularly to share goals, report on progress, obtain feedback on current artwork, and discuss topics of interest to the group. Become a regular or drop-in with artwork if you are looking for feedback. CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 12 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

  • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Lesley at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Join Our Curator Support Team
    Volunteer to assist a curator in November or January; offer your particular skill (press materials, hanging, spreadsheets, people skills) to a curator who needs it. Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Reach Out for DRA!
    DRA is forming several small groups of volunteers to help coordinate our participation in community events. Sign up today for the: First Thursday Committee (May-Sep), Art on the Avenue Committee (October 5th event), or Community Requests Committee (ad hoc). Contact Amber at Outreach@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
    As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval.   • Help with the Gallery Garden
    Dig, weed, and learn other skills by professional landscape designer and artist, Pamela Underhill. No experience necessary. Meet weekdays or weekends for an hour or more. Bring a friend or come solo. It's fun, meditative, and builds muscles! Contact Pamela at Underhill.Pamela@gmail.com or 703-507-4964.
  • Develop new features using PHP or SQL for the DRA Web Site

Call for Entry: The Art of Music Juried Exhibition

Entry Deadline: October 25, 2013. The 4th Annual Patricia Sitar Arts Expo: Juried Exhibition "The Art of Music" will be at the Sitar Arts Center's Cafritz Gallery in Washington DC. Artwork must relate to written, vocal or instrumental music, bands, musicians and/or musical instruments, and be appropriate for school age children. 2D works must be no larger than 4’ in width or height and 3D works should not exceed 5’H x 3’D. Exhibition Opportunity: Exhibit Space Available for Solo or Group Shows

Application Deadline: October 31, 2013. Exhibit space available for an individual SOLO show or a self-organized (2-6 people) GROUP show. Exhibition dates available: January 3 - February 2 or February 7 - March 2 or June 6-29, 2014. VMFA Visual Arts Fellowships 2014-15

Application deadline: Friday, November 8, 2013. Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is now accepting applications for 2014-15 Visual Arts Fellowships. VMFA is committed to supporting professional artists as well as art and art history students who demonstrate exceptional creative ability in their chosen discipline. Award amount include: $8000 Professional artists, $6000 Graduate students in the visual arts or art history, and $4000 Undergraduate students in the visual arts (including college-bound high school seniors).
