Life Drawing - Open Sessions

• Sunday, June 23 from 9:30-11:30am (gesture)
• Wednesday, June 26 from 2-5pm (short/long pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Partners in Art

Monday, June 24 from 2-4pm. Looking for support in reaching your art-related goals? Partners in Art is a group of artists that meets regularly to share goals, report on progress, obtain feedback on current artwork, and discuss topics of interest to the group. Become a regular or drop-in with artwork if you are looking for feedback. Craft Night Social

Tuesday, June 25 from 6-9pm. Bring in your own projects in progress and spend a few hours of uninterrupted time crafting. Meet other creative like-minded individuals as well. Open to knit / crochet / fiber arts, paper crafts / scrapbooking / stamping / card-making, sewing, jewelry, drawing, and general crafts. No wet media other than glue please. Each person will receive 2-3 feet of table space. Each 3-hour session is $8 for DRA members and $10 for non-members. Register at DelRayArtisans.org/craft

Music In Art exhibit

Artwork influenced by a particular tune, song, movement or aria. Can you name that tune by the brush strokes in the painting, gems in the necklace, weave in fiber art, or see the movement in clay sculpture? Grown-Ups Art Camp (GUAC)

July 1-12, 2013. The GUAC schedule is here! The Alexandria Art Market

Saturday, July 6 from 10am-4pm. Don't miss the 4th season of the Alexandria Art Market held on the green space at our gallery! First Thursday: Rain Barrel Design

Thursday, July 11, 6-9pm. Help us with the design for the outside of our Eco-friendly rain barrel! We would love any suggestions for subject matter or sketches that could be incorporated into an overall design. Swing by the gallery on Del Ray's First Thursday (on July 11 due to the holiday on the actual First Thursday) between 6pm and 9pm to provide feedback or pick-up a marker and make a sketch! Questions? Summer Art Camp for Kids

Artists Through the Ages - a week of art exploration through art history, historic time periods and themes, and influential artists

Choose July 15-19 or July 22-26. There is still space available to register your child for DRA’s summer art camp. This year we are offering two separate weeks of camp (with the same program for each week). Camp is open to students ages 8-14, and all supplies and lunch are included in the registration fee. There will also be a one-day only gallery show (Saturdays, July 20 and July 27) to show off the students' work from their week of camp. Students will receive top-notch art instruction by professional artists and teachers. Shaving Cream Marbling/Monoprinting

Wednesday, July 3, 6:30-9:30pm. Using shaving cream as the base for textile paints to "float on," participants will create one-of-a-kind prints using marbling and/or monoprint techniques. Prints can be created on paper and fabric. Each participant will have their own station to create and pull as many prints as they want during the class. The workshop will start with a short how-to demo, and instructors will help individual participants with methods and process. Instructors: Stacy Rausch & Jen Athanas. Cost: $30 + $20 supplies. Photo Decals in Glass

2-Day Workshop: July 5 from 11-2pm and July 8 from 11-12:30pm. Using a laser printer, students will copy and transfer a design, photograph, computer drawing, or original artwork created with ink and paper, to fusing photo paper. When these images are transferred to a piece of glass to be fused in a kiln, the resulting image is sepia tone, reminiscent of old-time photographs. Participants will begin by transferring small images to 2-inch square glass squares that will be used to make magnets, and may create a larger 4-inch by 6-inch project. The instructor will take the images to be fired and return them later in the week. Instructor: Betsy Mead. Cost: $70 + $10 supplies. Register: DelRayArtisans.org/GUAC

Recipe for Collage

Friday, July 5, 6-10pm. Start with a bag of "ingredients" consisting of textured and colored papers, magazine images and/or photos, and an array of art supplies including inks, paints, pens, stamps, etc. Then follow a "recipe" that is a step-by-step guide for layering your supplies to create your collage. In addition to having at your disposal adhesives, scissors and other tools, you may "shop" the aisles for more ingredients and materials. Instructor: Theresa Kulstad. Cost: $40 + $5 supplies. Pop-Up Sewing: Decorative Pillow

Saturday, July 6, 10-12pm. If you've ever thought about learning how to sew (but didn't know how start)—and would like to add a personal touch to your decorating—this event is for you. Professional seamstress Chrystal Cooper will teach you how to use a sewing machine to make a decorative pillow to take home—and have fun doing it. There is no need to bring supplies, everything you need will be provided. Instructor: Chris Cooper. Cost: $30 (includes supplies). Register: DelRayArtisans.org/GUAC

Pop-Up Sewing: Doggie Jacket

Saturday, July 6, 12:30-2:30pm. If you've ever thought about learning how to sew (but didn't know how start)—and would like your favorite dog to make a fashion statement—this event is for you. Professional seamstress Chrystal Cooper will teach you how to use a sewing machine to make and take home a jacket for your dog—and have fun doing it. There is no need to bring supplies, everything you need will be provided. Be sure to take your dog's chest and length measurements before you come. Instructor: Chris Cooper. Intro to Fashion Drawing

Saturday, July 6, 5:30-9:30pm. Learn how to draw a fashion illustration figure. You will learn the difference between proportions of the regular figure and the fashion figure and the 9 heads of the fashion figure, and to use different to techniques to render different fabrics. The instructor will provide a supplies list to all participants. Instructor: Christina Perry. Cost: $50 + supplies. Register: DelRayArtisans.org/GUAC

Mindful Mediation for Enhanced Creativity

6-Day Workshop: July 7 through July 12 from 1-2:30pm each day. This workshop consists of six 1½-hour sessions. After teaching the basics of mindful meditation, each session involves: a period of meditation; a period of writing in response to "guiding questions" that get at the nature of creativity, the individual's expectations and goals for their creative life; and opportunity to share experiences with the blocks that have been encountered and their responses to the guiding questions. Del Ray Dozen Invitational Photography Show

The Del Ray Dozen Invitational Photography Show returns to Del Ray Artisans after a 4-year hiatus. This is a juried show and DRA member photographers are invited to prepare a portfolio with examples of their work to present to the jury in a portfolio review. The reviews are scheduled for August 7th and 21st, so get your portfolio together. Photographers who are accepted will decide which of their recent work they wish to display and will be given a space in the gallery. Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 10 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

• Post DRA Events on assigned Online Calendars
  Post approved DRA publicity materials on online calendars assigned to you. Each volunteer will have one or two web calendars to update. Must have internet access and will take approximately 30 minutes each time (usually twice per month). DRA members only. Contact Dawn at Technology@DelRayArtisans.org.
• Join Our Curator Support Team
  Volunteer to assist a curator in September, October, or November; offer your particular skill (hanging, spreadsheets, design) to a curator who needs it; or apply for the position of Director of Curating! Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley Hall at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org.
• Reach Out for DRA!
  DRA is forming several small groups of volunteers to help coordinate our participation in community events. Sign up today for the: First Thursday Committee (May-Sep), Art on the Avenue Committee (October 5th event), or Community Requests Committee (ad hoc). • Adopt-A-Park

• Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
  As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval. • Help with the Gallery Garden
  Dig, weed, and learn other skills by professional landscape designer and artist, Pamela Underhill. No experience necessary. Meet weekdays or weekends for an hour or more. Open Call for Mural Artists

Deadline extended to Sunday, June 30, 2013. This is an open call for artists to submit concepts to be considered for a mural that will cover the walls inside of the Torpedo Factory Art Center along the waterfront entrance. This call is open to all local and regional artists. The winner of the selected mural will be awarded $2,000. The juror, Shane Pomajambo, will select the top three proposals, with final selection to be chosen by Eric Wallner, CEO of the Torpedo Factory Art Center. Deadline for Entry: July 8, 2013. In the Flesh 4 returns after popular demand; this is an exhibition that examines contemporary figurative art.
