The Alexandria Art Market (Tomorrow Rain or Shine!)

Saturday, June 1 from 10am-4pm. Don't miss the 4th season of the Alexandria Art Market held on the green space at our gallery! A variety of original artwork from over 25 artists will be on display including painting, photography, pottery, jewelry, and glasswork. Musical Performance by Janna Audey from 12-2pm. Artworks For Good

Artworks For Good Exhibit Closing/ Fundraiser/ Benefit Reception (Tomorrow!)

Saturday, June 1, 7-10pm, with an open-mic auction! This Reception honors Becky Arnold who passed away last fall after a battle with cancer. Becky was a passionate supporter of the arts and helped to grow Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls program. Proceeds from this Reception will be split between Del Ray Artisans and the American Cancer Society in honor of Becky. Tickets to this Reception are $10. Music in Art

Music In Art Opening Reception

Friday, June 7 from 7-10pm. Artwork influenced by a particular tune, song, movement or aria. Can you name that tune by the brush strokes in the painting, gems in the necklace, weave in fiber art, or see the movement in clay sculpture? Summer Art Camp for Kids

Summer Art Camp for Kids

Artists Through the Ages - a week of art exploration through art history, historic time periods and themes, and influential artists

Choose July 15-19 or July 22-26.
There is still space available to register your child for DRA’s summer art camp. This year we are offering two separate weeks of camp (with the same program for each week). Camp is open to students ages 8-14, and all supplies and lunch are included in the registration fee. There will also be a one-day only gallery show (Saturdays, July 20 and July 27) to show off the students' work from their week of camp. Students will receive top-notch art instruction by professional artists and teachers. Partners in Art is a group of artists that meets regularly to share goals, report on progress, obtain feedback on current artwork, and discuss topics of interest to the group. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Member Meeting/Benefit Program: Pricing and Marketing Your Artwork

Sunday, June 16 from 4-6pm. Back by popular demand! Del Ray Artisans workshop for member artists, "Pricing and Marketing Your Artwork" led by David A. Kosar, will answer the most frequently asked questions by artists: "How do I price and market my artwork?" This program is for members only, however the gallery will be open for all to see the Music In Art exhibit. The value is enormous, but as “Benefit Program” implies, the member rate is free! Craft Night Social

Tuesday, June 25 from 5-9pm. Bring in your own projects in progress and spend a few hours of uninterrupted time crafting. Meet other creative like-minded individuals as well. Open to knit / crochet / fiber arts, paper crafts / scrapbooking / stamping / card-making, sewing, jewelry, drawing, and general crafts. No wet media other than glue please. Each person will receive 2-3 feet of table space. Each 4-hour session is $8 for DRA members and $10 for non-members. Register at TheDelRayArtisans.org/craft


Grown-Ups Art Camp (GUAC)

July 1-12, 2013. The GUAC schedule is here! We have 22 exciting workshops scheduled - from tapestry weaving to playing with resin; from creating a masterpiece out of mosaics, glass or paper to learning how to conquer social media (or at least how to put a leash on it!). You can sign up for as many as you want – the choice is yours – and tell your friends! Register right away as these workshops will fill up soon! Call for Entry: Music In Art

Receiving: Sunday, June 2 and Monday, June 3 from 6-8pm. This all-member, all-media exhibit explores the relationship between music and art. There is a long history of musical references and influences in the visual arts. We are looking for artists to give us their interpretations—your chance to bring music in art to life with your painting, sculpture, glass, fiber, jewelry, or a mixed media creation! CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 10 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

  • Join Our Curator Support Team
    Volunteer to assist a curator in September, October, or November; offer your particular skill (hanging, spreadsheets, design) to a curator who needs it; or apply for the position of Director of Curating! Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley Hall at Volunteers@TheDelRayArtisans.org.
  • Reach Out for DRA!
    DRA is forming several small groups of volunteers to help coordinate our participation in community events. Sign up today for the: First Thursday Committee (May-Sep), Art on the Avenue Committee (October 5th event), or Community Requests Committee (ad hoc).   • Adopt-A-Park
    It's the season where cleanness equals points towards cash. Trash needs to be picked up from the small park and from around the gallery. About 1-1 1/2 hours of work on weekends through November 30. Contact Marlin G. Lord at Facilities@TheDelRayArtisans.org or 703-508-7471 with your availability.
  • Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
    As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval.   • Help with the Gallery Garden
    Dig, weed, and learn other skills by professional landscape designer and artist, Pamela Underhill. No experience necessary. Meet weekdays or weekends for an hour or more.   • Develop new features using PHP or SQL for the DRA Web Site

Call for Artist Vendors: Art on the Avenue on October 5, 2013

Submit Application by June 1 to be in the first round of judging. Art on the Avenue is a multicultural arts festival organized by the Del Ray Community Partnership. The show welcomes applications from all craft artists and is known for high quality artwork. All work must be original, handmade, created and exhibited by the approved artist. Showcase your most recent and best work, and list materials and retail prices on the back of each photo. Standard booth rate is $185 ($165 for Del Ray Artisans & students). Open Call for Mural Artists

Deadline extended to Sunday, June 30, 2013. This is an open call for artists to submit concepts to be considered for a mural that will cover the walls inside of the Torpedo Factory Art Center along the waterfront entrance. This call is open to all local and regional artists. The winner of the selected mural will be awarded $2,000. The juror, Shane Pomajambo, will select the top three proposals, with final selection to be chosen by Eric Wallner, CEO of the Torpedo Factory Art Center. Call for Entry: In the Flesh 4

Deadline for Entry: July 8, 2013. In the Flesh 4 returns after popular demand; this is an exhibition that examines contemporary figurative art. An all media exhibit that invites artists nationally and internationally to submit work for consideration that includes the human figure as its subject. The juror is American realist painter Jason John, currently represented by The Principle Gallery in Alexandria, VA. Exhibition Dates: September 7-29, 2013.
