Artworks For Good Exhibit Opening Reception (Tonight)

Friday, May 17, 7-10pm. Del Ray Artisans (non-profit) is hosting a fundraiser art exhibit titled Artworks For Good. This exhibit features original artwork by area artists. Artwork is priced starting at $100; Take-Away art starts at $50. Artworks For Good runs from May 17 through June 1, and ends with a Closing/ Fundraiser/ Benefit Reception on June 1st (with open-mic auction!) to benefit Del Ray Artisans and the American Cancer Society in honor of arts patron Becky Arnold. The Alexandria Art Market

Saturday, June 1 from 10am-4pm. Don't miss the 4th season of the Alexandria Art Market held on the green space at our gallery! A variety of original artwork from over 25 artists will be on display including painting, photography, pottery, jewelry, and glasswork. Musical Performance by Janna Audey from 12-2pm. Artworks For Good Exhibit Closing/ Fundraiser/ Benefit Reception

Saturday, June 1, 7-10pm, with an open-mic auction! This Reception honors Becky Arnold who passed away last fall after a battle with cancer. Becky was a passionate supporter of the arts and helped to grow Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls program. Proceeds from this Reception will be split between Del Ray Artisans and the American Cancer Society in honor of Becky. Tickets to this Reception are $10. Summer Art Camp for Kids

Summer Art Camp for Kids

Artists Through the Ages - a week of art exploration through art history, historic time periods and themes, and influential artists

Choose July 15-19 or July 22-26.
There is still space available to register your child for DRA’s summer art camp. This year we are offering two separate weeks of camp (with the same program for each week). Camp is open to students ages 8-14, and all supplies and lunch are included in the registration fee. There will also be a one-day only gallery show (Saturdays, July 20 and July 27) to show off the students' work from their week of camp. Students will receive top-notch art instruction by professional artists and teachers. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Partners in Art is a group of artists that meets regularly to share goals, report on progress, obtain feedback on current artwork, and discuss topics of interest to the group. Call for Entry: Music In Art

Receiving: Sunday, June 2 and Monday, June 3 from 6-8pm. This all-member, all-media exhibit explores the relationship between music and art. There is a long history of musical references and influences in the visual arts. We are looking for artists to give us their interpretations—your chance to bring music in art to life with your painting, sculpture, glass, fiber, jewelry, or a mixed media creation! Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 10 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

  • Plant & Bake Sale Donations for the Yard Sale
    If you're a gardener, spring is the time to split those plans and donate them to DRA. If you're a baker, whip up a tasty treat to sell at our bake sale! We will be accepting garden and baked donations only on Thursday, May 23 (1-9pm) and Friday, May 24 (1-9pm).
  • Yard Sale Donation Drop-Off Times
    Sunday, May 19 from 2-6pm (no plants or baked goods yet); Thursday, May 23 from 1-9pm; and Friday, May 24 from 1-9pm (LAST DAY FOR DONATIONS). For details, visit DelRayArtisans.org/YardSale.
  • Yard Sale Helpers 
    Give 2 or more hours to help organizing, pricing and tagging on Sunday, May 19 (2-6pm), Thursday, May 23 (1-9pm) and Friday, May 24 (1-9pm). Also needed are helpers during the Yard Sale on Saturday, May 25 in 3-hour shifts (7am-3pm). Please contact Lesley Hall at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Join Our Curator Support Team
    Volunteer to assist a curator in September, October, or November; offer your particular skill (hanging, spreadsheets, design) to a curator who needs it; or apply for the position of Director of Curating! Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley Hall at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Reach Out for DRA!
    DRA is forming several small groups of volunteers to help coordinate our participation in community events. Sign up today for the: First Thursday Committee (May-Sep), Art on the Avenue Committee (October 5th event), or Community Requests Committee (ad hoc).   • Adopt-A-Park
    It's the season where cleanness equals points towards cash. Trash needs to be picked up from the small park and from around the gallery. About 1-1 1/2 hours of work on weekends through November 30. Contact Marlin G. Lord at Facilities@DelRayArtisans.org or 703-508-7471 with your availability.
  • Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
    As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval.   • Help with the Gallery Garden
    Dig, weed, and learn other skills by professional landscape designer and artist, Pamela Underhill. No experience necessary. Meet weekdays or weekends for an hour or more.   • Develop new features using PHP or SQL for the DRA Web Site

OTHER REGIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS

Photographer Fellowships: Aaron Siskind Foundation Invites Applications for 2013

Deadline: May 24, 2013. Fellowship grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to artists working in photography and/or photo-based art who demonstrate a serious commitment to photography and who are professionally active in the field. Works submitted may be traditional photography projects or experimental works, but photographic techniques must be pivotal to the work submitted. Call for Artist Vendors: Art on the Avenue on October 5, 2013

Submit Application by June 1 to be in the first round of judging. Art on the Avenue is a multicultural arts festival organized by the Del Ray Community Partnership. The show welcomes applications from all craft artists and is known for high quality artwork. All work must be original, handmade, created and exhibited by the approved artist. Showcase your most recent and best work, and list materials and retail prices on the back of each photo. Standard booth rate is $185 ($165 for Del Ray Artisans & students).
