Inside The Beltway art exhibit

Inside The Beltway exhibit ends Friday, April 19

The current Art in City Hall exhibit, Inside The Beltway, explores the sights of the Washington Metropolitan area. Art in City Hall is a collaborative program of the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, the Office of the Arts, The Art League, Del Ray Artisans and the Torpedo Factory Arts Center. Craft Night Social

Tuesday, April 23 from 5-9pm. Bring in your own projects in progress and spend a few hours of uninterrupted time crafting. Meet other creative like-minded individuals as well. Open to knit / crochet / fiber arts, paper crafts / scrapbooking / stamping / card-making, sewing, jewelry, drawing, and general crafts. No wet media other than glue please. Turn On Your Masters art exhibit

Turn On Your Masters Art Exhibit

Show runs through April 28. Artists pay homage to their favorite masters, question the hoopla surrounding particular pieces and praise, critique, or dish the artists who have influenced them. Satire is a big compliment to a master artist as are works that pay homage to the master of any era or today. Two- and three-dimensional art and textiles. These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. 16th Annual T.C. Williams Student Art Exhibition Opening Reception

Friday, May 3 from 7-10pm. The art of thirteen T.C. Williams High School students, who were selected as this year's National Art Honor Society inductees, will be on exhibit. Many of these students will continue their art studies at the college level and much of the work showcased was featured in their winning college admission portfolios. Show runs May 3-12. The Alexandria Art Market Returns!

Saturday, May 4 from 10am-4pm. The 4th season of The Alexandria Art Market will be held on the first Saturday of the month from May through September on the green space outside our gallery. A variety of original artwork from over 25 artists will be on display including painting, photography, pottery, jewelry, and glasswork. Artworks For Good Exhibit Opening Reception

Friday, May 17, 7-10pm. Del Ray Artisans (non-profit) is hosting a fundraiser art exhibit titled Artworks For Good. This exhibit features original artwork by area artists. Artwork is priced starting at $100; Take-Away art starts at $50. Artworks For Good runs from May 17 through June 1, and ends with a Closing/ Fundraiser/ Benefit Reception on June 1st (with open-mic auction!) to benefit Del Ray Artisans and the American Cancer Society in honor of arts patron Becky Arnold. Del Ray Artisans Yard Sale

Saturday, May 25; rain or shine. The fundraising yard sale will be on Memorial Day weekend, outside under tents. Set aside your donations now! Volunteers are needed during the week (May 20-24) to help collect donations, organize for inventory, and price; and on the day of the yard sale (May 25) for set-up, sales, and pack-up. Artworks For Good Exhibit Closing/ Fundraiser/ Benefit Reception

Saturday, June 1, 7-10pm, with an open-mic auction! This Reception honors Becky Arnold who passed away last fall after a battle with cancer. Becky was a passionate supporter of the arts and helped to grow Del Ray Artisans’ Gallery Without Walls program. Proceeds from this Reception will be split between Del Ray Artisans and the American Cancer Society in honor of Becky. Tickets to this Reception are $10. Call for Artist Vendors: Alexandria Art Market

Application Deadline: Monday, April 22, 2013. Join Del Ray Artisans in its 4th season of monthly outdoor art markets on the lawn area of the gallery. These markets give artists an opportunity to sell their original handmade artwork and provide them with consistent exposure to the community. There will be five (5) monthly markets on the 1st Saturday of the month (May through September) from 10am to 4pm, rain or shine. Call for Entry: Artworks For Good Fundraiser Exhibit

Receiving: Sunday, May 12 and Monday, May 13 from 6:30-8:30pm. Del Ray Artisans is hosting a fundraiser art exhibit with a closing Fundraiser/Benefit Reception. The proceeds of the art exhibit will go to DRA. Proceeds from the closing reception will be split between DRA and The American Cancer Society in honor of Becky Arnold. Artwork may be submitted through the Call For Entry process with a requested 40% donation from artwork sale -or- as a full donation to DRA. Only a limited number of donated artworks will be accepted. Members whose donated artworks are accepted will automatically satisfy their required 2013 DRA membership volunteer hours and are not required to gallery host for this show.   • Join Our Curator Support Team
    Volunteer to assist a curator in September, October, or November; offer your particular skill (hanging, spreadsheets, design) to a curator who needs it; or apply for the position of Director of Curating!   • Reach Out for DRA!
    DRA is forming several small groups of volunteers to help coordinate our participation in community events. Sign up today for the: First Thursday Committee (May-Sep), Art on the Avenue Committee (October 5th event), or Community Requests Committee (ad hoc).   • Adopt-A-Park
    It's the season where cleanness equals points towards cash. Trash needs to be picked up from the small park and from around the gallery.   • Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
    As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval.   • Help with the Gallery Garden
    Dig, weed, and learn other skills by professional landscape designer and artist, Pamela Underhill. No experience necessary. Meet weekdays or weekends for an hour or more. Workshop: Stitch Play with Ruth Chandler

Register by Friday, April 26; Workshop on Thursday, May 2, 10am-4pm. $75 fee. Learn and push hand stitching skills to the creative limit! Renowned sashiko and hand stitch expert Ruth Chandler will teach 18 hand stitches, imparting skills you'll use for mixed media and fiber art, clothing and accessories. Call for Entries: Workhouse Gallery 902 Inaugural Plein Air Event

Workhouse Associate Artists of Gallery 902 at the Workhouse Arts Center are hosting our Inaugural Plein Air Artists Event during SpringFest Fairfax 2013 on Saturday, April 27. Request for Proposals: Grants for K-12 Arts Education Programs

Deadline: April 30, 2013. Arts, Culture & Design in Schools, a charitable initiative of national retailer Target, is accepting applications from schools and nonprofit organizations for programs that bring arts and cultural experiences directly to K-12 students. The company is awarding grants of $2000 for programs that take place between September 2013 and August 2014. Grants are restricted to K-12 educational institutions and organizations with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Workshop: Creativity in the South of France - Color!

Deposit due: May 1. Workshop: June 3-10, 2013. Join Priscilla Treacy in tiny Durfort, France, in the Midi-Pyrenees Region. Our seven-day workshop will mix instruction in color and gouache (opaque watercolor), daily excursions for painting or sightseeing, relaxing by the river, and enjoying meals prepared by our own private chef. We'll stay in an 18th century house that is filled with the music of the river that flows nearby. Call For Artists: Visualizing Change, Inspiring Action!

Entry Deadline: May 2, 2013. Visualizing Change, Inspiring Action! is the art exhibit part of Fest Too hosted by Convergence of Alexandria, VA. We welcome both professional artists and student artists (high school and above) working in all media. Fest Too is a three-day arts and music festival celebrating the Northern VA and DMV DIY community. Fest Too encourages out of the box thinking, new and non-traditional media, and emerging artists. What do you see? What moves you? What challenges your assumptions? Ask yourself, "What potential does my art have to move people?" Imagine and dare to inspire action outside the gallery walls. Call for Entries: 3rd Annual Workhouse Clay National Ceramics Exhibition

Entry deadline: May 8, 2013. The Workhouse Arts Center (LAF) announced the 3rd Annual Workhouse Clay National Ceramics Exhibition as an "Open Call" for functional and/or sculptural ceramic artworks. All works must be primarily ceramic. Mixed media works will be accepted only if ceramic materials are the primary media. Size is limited to artwork that fits through a standard door. Photographer Fellowships: Aaron Siskind Foundation Invites Applications for 2013

Deadline: May 24, 2013. Fellowship grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to artists working in photography and/or photo-based art who demonstrate a serious commitment to photography and who are professionally active in the field. Works submitted may be traditional photography projects or experimental works, but photographic techniques must be pivotal to the work submitted. Call for Artist Vendors: Art on the Avenue on October 5, 2013

Submit Application by June 1 to be in the first round of judging. Art on the Avenue is a multicultural arts festival organized by the Del Ray Community Partnership. The show welcomes applications from all craft artists and is known for high quality artwork. All work must be original, handmade, created and exhibited by the approved artist. Workshop: Altered Art Assemblage - Recycled Robot with Leslie Brier

Register by Friday, June 7; Workshop on Sunday, June 16, 10am-4pm. $85 fee, many supplies provided. Learn a variety of cold-connection techniques, collage methods, and experiment with Aves Apoxie Sculpt (a two-part epoxy clay) as you recycle/upcycle familiar objects, such as alarm clocks and spice tins, to construct your own altered art robot.
