THIS SUNDAY, April 14, pick either 9-11am or 12-2pm. If you've ever thought about learning how to sew (but didn't know how start), this event is for you. You'll learn the basics of sewing by operating a sewing machine to make an environment friendly tote bag. For ages 11 years old to adult. Supplies provided. Fee: $20 DRA members or $25 non-members. Inside The Beltway exhibit ends Friday, April 19

The current Art in City Hall exhibit, Inside The Beltway, explores the sights of the Washington Metropolitan area. Art in City Hall is a collaborative program of the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, the Office of the Arts, The Art League, Del Ray Artisans and the Torpedo Factory Arts Center. Craft Night Social

Tuesday, April 23 from 5-9pm. Bring in your own projects in progress and spend a few hours of uninterrupted time crafting. Meet other creative like-minded individuals as well. Open to knit / crochet / fiber arts, paper crafts / scrapbooking / stamping / card-making, sewing, jewelry, drawing, and general crafts. No wet media other than glue please. Each person will receive 2-3 feet of table space. Each 4-hour session is $8 for DRA members and $10 for non-members. Walk-ins are welcome, but only registered participants are guaranteed a spot. Turn On Your Masters Art Exhibit runs through April 28

Artists pay homage to their favorite masters, question the hoopla surrounding particular pieces and praise, critique, or dish the artists who have influenced them. Satire is a big compliment to a master artist as are works that pay homage to the master of any era or today. Two- and three-dimensional art and textiles. Show runs April 5-28, 2013. 16th Annual T.C. Williams Student Art Exhibition

Opening Reception: Friday, May 3 from 7-10pm. The art of thirteen T.C. Williams High School students, who were selected as this year's National Art Honor Society inductees, will be on exhibit. Many of these students will continue their art studies at the college level and much of the work showcased was featured in their winning college admission portfolios. Show runs May 3-12. The Alexandria Art Market Returns!

Saturday, May 4 from 10am-4pm. The 4th season of The Alexandria Art Market will be held on the first Saturday of the month from May through September on the green space outside our gallery. Call for Proposals: Instruct a Workshop at Grown-Ups Art Camp (GUAC)

Proposal Deadline: THIS MONDAY, April 15, 2013. GUAC is an intensive schedule of workshops (day, night, weekday, weekend, holiday) from July 1-12. Participants sign up for each workshop individually. Workshops may be any length of time. We are looking for instructors to teach art techniques (e.g. painting, photography, pen and ink, mixed media) as well as artist development (e.g. writing an Artist Statement, framing, what IS a jpg). You can instruct beginners or those with more experience. Since GUAC is scheduled to be the prime activity, there will not be an art exhibit in the gallery and the floors will be protected, so "messy" workshops (e.g. mosaics, sculpture) may also be submitted! Call for Artist Vendors: Alexandria Art Market

Application Deadline: Monday, April 22, 2013. Join Del Ray Artisans in its 4th season of monthly outdoor art markets on the lawn area of the gallery. These markets give artists an opportunity to sell their original handmade artwork and provide them with consistent exposure to the community. There will be five (5) monthly markets on the 1st Saturday of the month (May through September) from 10am to 4pm, rain or shine. Call for Entry: Artworks For Good Fundraiser Exhibit

Receiving: Sunday, May 12 and Monday, May 13 from 6:30-8:30pm. Del Ray Artisans is hosting a fundraiser art exhibit with a closing Fundraiser/Benefit Reception. The proceeds of the art exhibit will go to DRA. Proceeds from the closing reception will be split between DRA and The American Cancer Society in honor of Becky Arnold. Artwork may be submitted through the Call For Entry process with a requested 40% donation from artwork sale -or- as a full donation to DRA. Only a limited number of donated artworks will be accepted. Members whose donated artworks are accepted will automatically satisfy their required 2013 DRA membership volunteer hours and are not required to gallery host for this show.     Volunteer to assist a curator in September, October, or November; offer your particular skill (hanging, spreadsheets, design) to a curator who needs it; or apply for the position of Director of Curating!   • Reach Out for DRA!
    DRA is forming several small groups of volunteers to help coordinate our participation in community events.   • Adopt-A-Park
    It's the season where cleanness equals points towards cash. Trash needs to be picked up from the small park and from around the gallery.   • Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
    As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval.   • Help with the Gallery Garden
    Dig, weed, and learn other skills by professional landscape designer and artist, Pamela Underhill. No experience necessary. Meet weekdays or weekends for an hour or more. Call for Commissioner: Join the Alexandria Commission for the Arts

Applications due TODAY (April 12) by 5pm. Seeking a member who represents arts education or business expertise relative to arts and cultural development (inc such perspectives as marketing, finance/funding, tourism promotion & organizational development). Meetings on the 3rd Tuesday each month at 7pm. Request for Proposals: Grants for K-12 Arts Education Programs

Deadline: April 30, 2013. Arts, Culture & Design in Schools, a charitable initiative of national retailer Target, is accepting applications from schools and nonprofit organizations for programs that bring arts and cultural experiences directly to K-12 students. The company is awarding grants of $2000 for programs that take place between September 2013 and August 2014. Workshop: Creativity in the South of France - Color!

Call for Entries: 3rd Annual Workhouse Clay National Ceramics Exhibition

Entry deadline: May 8, 2013. The Workhouse Arts Center (LAF) announced the 3rd Annual Workhouse Clay National Ceramics Exhibition as an “Open Call” for functional and/or sculptural ceramic artworks. All works must be primarily ceramic. Mixed media works will be accepted only if ceramic materials are the primary media. Size is limited to artwork that fits through a standard door. Photographer Fellowships: Aaron Siskind Foundation Invites Applications for 2013

Deadline: May 24, 2013. Fellowship grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to artists working in photography and/or photo-based art who demonstrate a serious commitment to photography and who are professionally active in the field. Works submitted may be traditional photography projects or experimental works, but photographic techniques must be pivotal to the work submitted. Submit Application by June 1 to be in the first round of judging. Art on the Avenue is a multicultural arts festival organized by the Del Ray Community Partnership. Workshop: Altered Art Assemblage - Recycled Robot with Leslie Brier
