Gaskin as they guide you through the process of creating personal poems about "power" and a small hardcover journal to hold them. You may bring decorative papers and basic paper-working tools. The Artful Power of Your Body: Vinyasa Yoga Session

Saturday, March 23 from 10-11:30am. Instructor Isabella Gutfreund will give an intermediate skill level class. Series of poses helps increase strength and flexibility. Receive professional coaching on building bodily strength and learning how to focus and quiet your mind. Not suggested for beginners. Wear appropriate clothing and bring a mat. POWER ART exhibit

Show runs: March 1 – 31, 2013. Artworks that evoke an emotion or that make an impact. Power Art can be big, bold, and graphic—or quiet, minimalist. Power Art may address civil liberties, human rights, or environmental issues. Come experience the art and unusual materials. Turn On Your Masters art exhibit

Opening Reception: Friday, April 5 from 7-10pm. Artists pay homage to their favorite masters, question the hoopla surrounding particular pieces and praise, critique, or dish the artists who have influenced them. Satire is a big compliment to a master artist as are works that pay homage to the master of any era or today. Two- and three-dimensional art and textiles. During the opening, there will be a special musical performance art event inspired by the legendary opera diva Maria Callas. Don't miss it! Show runs April 5-28, 2013. Pop-up Sewing Class

Sunday, April 14, pick either 9-11am or 12-2pm. If you've ever thought about learning how to sew (but didn't know how start), this event is for you. You'll learn the basics of sewing by operating a sewing machine to make an environment friendly tote bag. For ages 11 years old to adult. Supplies provided. Fee: $20 DRA members or $25 non-members. Craft Night

Tuesday, April 23 from 5-9pm. Bring in your own projects in progress and spend a few hours of uninterrupted time crafting. Meet other creative like-minded individuals as well. Open to knit / crochet / fiber arts, paper crafts / scrapbooking / stamping / card-making, sewing, jewelry, drawing, and general crafts. No wet media other than glue please. Call for Entry: Art in City Hall from April 22–November 15

Deadline: Friday, March 29 at 6pm. The Art League and the City of Alexandria, in conjunction with the Mayor's initiative to promote the arts, are coordinating a rotating fine art exhibit to enhance the environment of Alexandria's City Hall and to promote the talent of local artists. The exhibit will be juried by an outside, independent expert in the arts, and will hang for six months on the second floor of the Alexandria City Hall. Call for Artist Vendors: Art on the Avenue on October 5, 2013

Application deadline for discounted rate: April 1, 2013. Art on the Avenue is a multicultural arts festival organized by the Del Ray Community Partnership. The show welcomes applications from all craft artists and is known for high quality artwork. All work must be original, handmade, created and exhibited by the approved artist. Showcase your most recent and best work, and list materials and retail prices on the back of each photo. Standard booth rate is $165 ($145 for Del Ray Artisans & students) if postmarked by April 1. Call for Artist Vendors: Alexandria Art Market

Application Deadline: April 8, 2013. Join Del Ray Artisans in its 4th season of monthly outdoor art markets on the lawn area of the gallery. These markets give artists an opportunity to sell their original handmade artwork and provide them with consistent exposure to the community.   • Help document and shape DRA's Privacy Policy
    As we have grown in this technological era, new privacy concerns are popping up with regards to sharing personal contact information, photography at events, security cameras, and more. The Board is seeking members to help formulate and document a comprehensive privacy policy. Suggested policy revisions will be presented to the Board and the membership for final approval.   • Help with the Gallery Garden
    Dig, weed, and learn other skills by professional landscape designer and artist, Pamela Underhill. No experience necessary. Meet weekdays or weekends for an hour or more. Call for Entries: ArtsCONNECT Project Grants from Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF)

Application deadline: March 15. For projects taking place between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014. Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation works to increase access to the arts in DE, DC, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, WV, and US Virgin Islands. MAAF’s ArtsCONNECT program supports collaborations across the region to facilitate tours of artists involving all performing arts disciplines (including dance, music, theater, & folk/traditional arts). MAAF is dedicated to bringing artists to underserved audiences throughout the region & encouraging meaningful exchanges between artists, audiences, & their communities. Workshop: Stitchery With Hand Dyed Fibers with Diane Herbort

Must Register by Friday, March 15. Workshop on Saturday, March 16, 10am-2pm. $48 fee includes complete kit! Create two artworks, working with silk ribbons and a sampler of luscious hand-dyed cotton, silk and metallic fibers on pelmet Vilene, a sturdy textile with a beautiful watercolor look. Novices and skilled stitchers alike will enjoy experimenting with these gorgeous fibers and trying a variety of easy stitches. Workshop: Altered Art Assemblage - Recycled Robot with Leslie Brier

Must Register by Friday, March 15. Workshop on Sunday, March 17, 10am-4pm. $85 fee, many supplies provided. Learn a variety of cold-connection techniques, collage methods, and experiment with Aves Apoxie Sculpt (a two-part epoxy clay) as you recycle/upcycle familiar objects, such as alarm clocks and spice tins, to construct your own altered art robot. Call For Artists: Walk on the Wild Side

Entry Deadline: March 22. Walk on the Wild Side is an animal-themed exhibition of 2D and 3D artists working in all media. It is a fundraising joint project of the Northern Virginia Art Center and the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, both 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. Showcase your talent and creativity while helping AWLA care for animals in need and the NVAC serve and support the arts. All proceeds from submission fees, commissions and the opening reception will benefit both organizations in equal shares. Your submission fee is 100% tax-deductible. Workshop: Marbling on Fabric & Paper with Linda Cooper

Workshop: "From Board Game to Book"

Request for Proposals: Grants for K-12 Arts Education Programs

Deadline: April 30, 2013. Arts, Culture & Design in Schools, a charitable initiative of national retailer Target, is accepting applications from schools and nonprofit organizations for programs that bring arts and cultural experiences directly to K-12 students. The company is awarding grants of $2000 for programs that take place between September 2013 and August 2014. Grants are restricted to K-12 educational institutions and organizations with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Photographer Fellowships: Aaron Siskind Foundation Invites Applications for 2013

Deadline: May 24, 2013. Fellowship grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to artists working in photography and/or photo-based art who demonstrate a serious commitment to photography and who are professionally active in the field. Works submitted may be traditional photography projects or experimental works, but photographic techniques must be pivotal to the work submitted.
