Del Ray Artisans' Holiday Market (Reception Tonight)

The 17th annual Holiday Market offers handmade works from local artists, a children's table where little ones can shop for family members, handmade ornaments, and a bake sale. The Market runs for two more weekends: Dec 7–9 and Dec 14–16. Different artists each weekend! Hours are Fridays 6-9pm (reception), Saturdays 10am-4pm, Sundays 12-4pm. Artists: Want to demonstrate your craft or art?

The new Holiday Market layout has a gallery space for artists to do demonstrations on Saturdays (Dec 8 and Dec 15) between 10am and 4pm. You do not have to be a Holiday Market artist to participate! Demo spots are for 1 hour unless you want to sign up for 2 hours. Please make sure your demonstration is safe for spectators and not too messy. Bring your business cards / handouts to share with spectators, but please refrain from too much "sales pitching". Looking for support in reaching your art-related goals? Partners in Art is a group of artists that meets regularly to share goals, report on progress, obtain feedback on current artwork, and discuss topics of interest to the group. Become a regular or drop-in with artwork if you are looking for feedback. Bring Your Scraps and Come Have Fun with Collage Cut-Ups

Come play with the Collage Cut-Ups in a supportive environment that promotes an exchange of ideas, creativity, and networking with beginner and experienced collage artists. Collage Cut-Ups is an informal group where everyone works on individual projects. This is not a workshop. For more information, contact Millie Mateu at milaenartes@gmail.com.

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $8 for DRA members and $10 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $6 for members and $8 for non-members. Gallery Painting Party: Saturday, December 22, 2pm

In order to showcase all the new art in the New Year, the gallery walls need a new coat of paint! Everyone is invited to get messy and help paint the walls inside the gallery on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 2pm. There will be free pizza and beverages for all who come and help give the gallery a mini facelift for 2013. (Members: this is a fun way to satisfy some of your volunteer hours!) Questions? Shades of White Opening Reception: Friday, January 4, 7–10pm

White isn't "just white"! Chill out after the holiday madness in shades of white—tones and hues range from blues to beiges to yellows and more. Shades of White, a Del Ray Artisans all-member show, runs: January 4–27, 2013.

Shades of White All-Member Art Exhibit

Receiving: Sunday, Dec. 30 from 6-8pm and Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 from 4-7pm. This all-member, all-media show challenges DRA artists to think beyond the ordinary by creating their compositions in shades of white. White isn't "just white"! Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 10 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

• Reception Help needed Friday nights during the Holiday Market
  We need helpers (bartenders, food runners, front door greeters, etc.) at the receptions on Dec 7 and Dec 14 from 6–9pm. Volunteer for the evening or a single shift—every little bit helps! • Bake Sale Volunteers
  We are still in need of helpers to work 2-hour shifts at the Holiday Market Bake Sale on Saturdays (10am–4pm) and Sundays (noon–4pm) during all Holiday Market weekends (Dec 7–9 and Dec 14–16). All you have to do is be at the gallery during your shift (come early or stay late to shop!), put on a happy face, and sell baked goodies and handmade ornaments to holiday shoppers! • Baked Goods needed for the Holiday Market Bake Sale
  Time to start dropping off your baked goodies! Think cookies, brownies, muffins, loaves, cakes, candies and any of your favorite, homemade and delicious holiday goodies. Food donations MUST be individually packaged before drop-off. Please also include a list of ingredients on the package, so shoppers can choose wisely. You can drop-off baked goods on Thursday from 12–8pm, Friday from 12–9pm, or Saturday from 10am–2pm for that weekend’s Holiday Market (Dec 7-9 and Dec 14-16). The bake sale benefits Computer CORE (computercore.org).
• Handcraft Holiday Ornaments to benefit Del Ray Artisans
  Help DRA raise funds for the new lighting that was purchased earlier this year by making and donating a handmade ornament or two. Drop off your finished handmade ornaments to the gallery any time now through December 14th when the gallery is open (current hours: Thursdays 12–8pm, Fridays 12–9pm, Saturdays 10–4pm, and Sundays 12–4pm). Please sign your name on the back, so the purchaser knows it was crafted by you! Thank you for supporting Del Ray Artisans.

Call for Entries: Inaugural Visions at Off-Rhode Gallery

Deadline for Entry: Thursday, December 13, 2012. The studio at Art Enables kicks off its inaugural year of full programming in the Off-Rhode Gallery. The Off-Rhode Gallery is an adjunct exhibit space that features work by self-taught or contemporary artists with programming that compliments the mission of Art Enables. For Inaugural Visions, Art Enables seeks artwork (2-d and 3-d works welcome) that emphasizes the theme of the inauguration or your vision of what this administration means for the future. Conference: Art Works for Virginia

Virginia Commission for the Arts presents the “Art Works for Virginia” Conference in Richmond, Virginia, from January 29-30, 2013. Who should attend? Artists, board and staff members of Virginia arts organizations, arts educators, and arts advocates. Sessions include: Engaging Social Media, Finding Your Center, Managing Risk, Strategic Grant Writing, Funding Opportunities, and more. Call for Entries: Cult Creations

Entry Deadline: Midnight, January 4, 2013. Show runs January 12–30, 2013. The Arlington Arts Gallery is seeking artists for the upcoming Cult Creations Art Show a pop-culture inspired art show. Call for Entries: 2013 Open Exhibition

Deadline for Entry: February 4, 2013. This is an Open Call for proposals for an exhibition in the summer of 2013. This call is open to all artists from North America working in all visual media. Proposals for exhibitions by both individuals and groups will be considered. Our jurors this year are Foon Sham, Samantha May, and Morgan Hungerford West.
