The 17th annual Holiday Market offers handmade work from local artists, a children's table where little ones can shop for family members, handmade ornaments, and a bake sale. The Market runs for three weekends: Nov 30–Dec 2, Dec 7–9, and Dec 14–16. Different artists each weekend! Hours are Fridays 6-9pm (reception), Saturdays 10am-4pm, Sundays 12-4pm. We are bringing handmade ornaments back to the Holiday Market! Please make and donate ornaments for sale to benefit Del Ray Artisans. Drop-off your finished handmade ornaments at the gallery any time the gallery is open (Thursdays 12-6, Fridays 12-9, Saturdays 10-9, Sundays 12-6). Please sign your name on the back, so the purchaser knows it was crafted by you! Thank you for supporting Del Ray Artisans.

Looking for support as you strive to reach your art-related goals? Partners in Art is a group of artists that meets regularly to share goals, report on progress, obtain feedback on current artwork, and discuss topics of interest to the group. Become a regular or drop-in with artwork if you are looking for feedback. Bring Your Scraps and Come Have Fun with Collage Cut-Ups

Come play with the Collage Cut-Ups in a supportive environment that promotes an exchange of ideas, creativity, and networking with beginner and experienced collage artists. Collage Cut-Ups is an informal group where everyone works on individual projects. This is not a workshop. For more information, contact Millie Mateu at milaenartes@gmail.com.


Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Wednesday, December 12 from 11:00am-1pm (gesture)
  • Wednesday, December 12 from 1-2pm (party)
  • Wednesday, December 12 from 2-5pm (short/long pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $8 for DRA members and $10 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $6 for members and $8 for non-members. Shades of White Opening Reception: Friday, January 4, 7–10pm

White isn't "just white"! Chill out after the holiday madness in shades of white—tones and hues range from blues to beiges to yellows and more. Shades of White, a Del Ray Artisans all-member show, runs: January 4–27, 2013.

Shades of White All-Member Art Exhibit

Receiving: Sunday, Dec. 30 from 6-8pm and Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 from 4-7pm. This all-member, all-media show challenges DRA artists to think beyond the ordinary by creating their compositions in shades of white. White isn't "just white"! CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 10 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

  • DRA Secretary needed
    Responsibilities include attending & taking minutes at monthly board meetings, then sending them out to board before the next meeting. Meetings are on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 7–9pm. Time commitment: 3–4 hours monthly. Help shape DRA's future by joining our Board of Directors. Must be a current DRA member. Contact Michele Reday Cook at President@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Gift Wrappers Needed on Nov. 26 and Dec. 7
    Volunteers needed at Barnes & Noble Potomac Yard on November 26 from 4:30-11pm and December 7 from 9am-12pm to gift-wrap purchases. This is part fundraiser (think "tip jar") and part "Thank You" to Barnes & Noble for hosting a bookfair in DRA's honor. Interested in wrapping? Contact Amanda at Fundraising@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Reception Help needed Friday nights during the Holiday Market
    We need helpers (bartenders, food runners, front door greeters, etc.) at the receptions on Nov 30, Dec 7 and Dec 14 from 6–9pm. Volunteer for the evening or a single shift—every little bit helps!   • Bake Sale Volunteers
    We need helpers to work 2-hour shifts at the Holiday Market Bake Sale on Saturdays (10am–4pm) and Sundays (noon–4pm) during all 3 Holiday Market weekends (Nov 30-Dec 2, Dec 7-9, & Dec 14-16). All you have to do is be at the gallery during your shift (come early or stay late to shop!), put on a happy face, and sell baked goodies and handmade ornaments to holiday shoppers!   • Baked Goods needed for the Holiday Market Bake Sale
    Warm up your ovens and help make DRA's Holiday Market Bake Sale extra yummy! We need baked goodies for each weekend of the Holiday Market (Nov 30-Dec 2, Dec 7-9, and Dec 14-16). Think cookies, brownies, muffins, loaves, cakes, candies and any of your favorite, homemade and delicious holiday goodies. Food donations MUST be individually packaged before drop-off. Please also include a list of ingredients on the package, so shoppers can choose wisely. You can drop-off baked goods on Thursdays from 12 - 8pm; Fridays from 12 - 9pm or Saturdays from 10am - 2pm for that weekend’s Holiday Market. The bake sale benefits Computer CORE (computercore.org).

Call for Poets: City of Alexandria Poet Laureate

Nominations due: Monday, November 26, 2012 by 5pm. The City of Alexandria's Office of the Arts is in search of a Poet Laureate to promote an appreciation of poetry as an art form, encourage the creative writing and reading of literature, and promote literacy through poetry. The individual will serve as Poet Laureate for three years and receive a modest honorarium. Submit nominations to the Office of the Arts, 1605 Cameron St., Alexandria, VA 22314. Call for Entries: Fabricated: An Exhibition of Wearable Art

Deadline for Entry: December 3, 2012. Fabricated is an all-media exhibition featuring "wearable art", which refers to individually designed pieces of handmade clothing or jewelry created as fine or expressive art. While the making of any article of clothing or other wearable object typically involves aesthetic considerations, the term wearable art implies that the work is intended to be accepted as a serious and unique artistic creation or statement. Call for Entries: 2013 Open Exhibition

Deadline: February 4, 2013. This is an Open Call for proposals for an exhibition in the summer of 2013. This call is open to all artists from North America working in all visual media. Proposals for exhibitions by both individuals and groups will be considered. Our jurors this year are Foon Sham, Samantha May, and Morgan Hungerford West.
