Artist Warriors: Post Apocalyptic Adventure Opening Reception January 6, 7 pm – 10 pm

Imagine a post apocalyptic landscape. Come and see how area artist have documented this inhospitable world with artistic vision. We invite you on this adventure. You will need to be armed with imagination. What would you see in a world after a global disaster decimates populations, governments and society? Is this world real or media created... The show runs from January 6 through January 29, 2012

Open Life Drawing Sessions

  • Wednesday, January 11 (11am–1pm Gesture, clothed; 2pm–4pm Short/Long Pose, clothed)
  • Wednesday, January 18 (6:30pm–9:30pm Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, January 25 (2pm–4pm Short/Long Pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $8 for DRA members and $10 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $6 for members and $8 for non-members. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. You may find us engaged in a creativity exercise, enjoying a short demonstration or having in a lively art-related discussion. This program is free of charge and open to all. Bring Your Scraps and Come Have Fun with Collage Cut Ups

Do you feel overwhelmed with the deluge of junk mail and magazines that come in the mail? Well here's your chance to beat the paper avalanche. Come play with the Collage Cut Ups in a supportive environment that promotes an exchange of ideas, creativity and networking with beginner and experienced collage artists. The Art of Fashion: Haute Couture Then and Now – Workshop on Thursday, January 12, 2012 (7pm – 8:30pm)

Join fashion guru Susan Boyd, owner of Wear It Well Wardrobe and Image Consulting (www.WearItWellConsulting.com), for an evening of fashion at its most exclusive. Following a screening of "High Style: Betsy Bloomingdale and the Haute Couture" Susan will talk about why some fashion is considered art, the difference between haute couture and ready-to-wear, how haute couture has changed, and shopping tips for high-fashion, high-quality clothes.

Artist Warriors, Post Apocalyptic Adventure (January 6-29, 2012)

Receiving Monday January 2, 2012 1-4pm; Tuesday January 3, 2012 5-7pm. This show is all about letting your inner survivalist and your art warrior imagination go wild. Be a surviving artist in the landscape of a post-apocalyptic world. You become an art warrior documenting this inhospitable world with your art and creating fashions to move through it. Causes of this apocalypse could be real or media created. Why should Hollywood have all the fun? Love, Politics and Scrabble: The Games People Play (February 3 – 26, 2012)

Receiving: Sunday, January 29 and Monday, January 30 6:30 – 8:30 pm The Del Ray Artisans invites artists to submit artwork inspired by the various games people play throughout life. The show, juried by Virginia-based painter Moira McQuillen is an all-media show open to all area artists. Participating show artists are also eligible to participate in the show's Marketplace & Card Shop. So, what's your game? Seeking DRA Members for...

  • Gardening: If you have any time or desire to do a little digging before and after the holidays, Please call Garden Committee Chair Pamela Underhill 703-507-4964. She can meet with you at the gallery and set you up with work or work with you. Stay tuned to Spring Planting news and volunteer opportunities.
  • Fundraising: Help organize or assist with fundraising activities. We have a few goals to meet including new gallery lighting.
  • Facilities: Interested in helping around the gallery? The Facility Committee is looking for committee members.

Interested members should contact Lesley Hall at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org for details. There are many fun ways to meet the 10 volunteer hours per year minimum!

Call For Artists: The Gallery at Bloombars

The Gallery at BloomBars seeks visual and performance artists to exhibit and perform their work. Pieces' themes should explore, confront, and interpret personal, social, political, or economic issues. The artwork should also inform, challenge, expose, uplift, and transform the viewer.

If you are interested in an exhibition or performance email john@bloombars.com and request an exhibition proposal or vendor application form. The Gallery is located at 3222 11th Street, NW, in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.


Submit art or craft-related opportunities and announcements for the DRA Eblast [minimum of 14 days prior to the event or the call for entries] to Enews@DelRayArtisans.org on Monday by 6pm.
