Drawing Inspiration from the Figure (Receiving May 29-30)

[DRA Members only]: Call for Entries: DelRayArtisans.org/shows/calls/Due-2011-05-30-Figure.pdf. Receiving: Sunday, May 29 from 5-8pm and Monday, May 30, 2011 from 5-7pm. We look forward to displaying your art that has started from observations of the human figure and developed into all manner of artistic expression. Realistic or abstracted, we are looking to have it in our show. Show us: how does the human figure inform or inspire your art? This all-member show will run from June 3 to June 26.


Alexandria Art Market

Alexandria Art Market – Saturday, June 4, 10am–4pm

Alexandria Art Market's 2nd season is now underway. Markets will be held the 1st Saturdays of June, July, August, September and November 2011, 10-4 pm, rain or shine. The market boasts amazing artwork from local artists, music from multicultural musicians and great food from local restaurants. Open Life Drawing Session in May/June

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models.

  • May 25 (6:30 pm - 9:30 pm long poses)
  • June 8 (11-1 pm, gestures; 2-5 pm, short/long poses)
  • June 15 (6:30 pm - 9:30 pm long poses)
  • June 22 (11-1 pm, gestures; 2-5 pm, short/long poses)

Partners in Art Group

Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. You may find us engaged in a creativity exercise, enjoying a short demonstration or having in a lively art-related discussion. Through it all we will always be striving to inspire and encourage.

ATC (Artist's Trading Card) Party, Friday, June 17, 7-9pm

Come join us for an evening of "free" fun at the gallery. We will provide desserts and beverages or bring something to share. Cards, magazines for collage, markers and paint provided. Make several cards and start a collection of traded "mini art". The gallery's show, Drawing Inspiration From the Human Figure, will be our theme for at least one of your cards, to be hung in the show as a compilation ATC piece.

Beyond Form at Signature Theatre

Beyond Form: Expressing Art Exhibit at Signature Theatre runs through June 12

This is a juried selection of pieces from the recent abstract art show at the DRA gallery. This all media, abstract art show is exhibited in the lobby gallery of Signature Theatre in conjunction with their run of "ART" by Yasmina Reza in which a white-on-white abstract painting plays a leading role! Visit our exhibit whenever the Signature lobby is open, Tuesday - Friday 10 am - 10 pm, Saturday and Sunday noon - 10 pm.

Call For Artists - Alexandria VA

Deadline extended to June 1: Artists and crafters are invited to apply to the Alexandria West End Art and Wine Festival 2011. The Festival is scheduled for October 8-9, 2011 along public streets in the Cameron Station subdivision and ajoining areas of Ben Brenman Park, located in Alexandria, VA. Play with your Food in black and white – Alexandria, VA

Deadline – June 1: The exhibit at Rampart's Music Tavern will promote the talent of local artists. Entries will be juried by Fierce Sonia a local award winning artist. The show will hang for six months in the Fairlington Room at Rampart's Music Tavern. Artists living or working in the Virginia, Maryland, and DC area are eligible. "32 Square Feet" Gallery Show – MD

Deadline – June 3: The Washington School of Photography has a unique opportunity for interested artists working in any two-dimensional media to exhibit work and expose their talents to the hundreds of visitors and workshop patrons who visit WSP every week. On Friday, June 10, 2011, WSP will open "32 Square Feet", with space for just 26 artists. Each artist will have a four foot wide, eight feet high wall space, in an unjuried format. Your work must be ready to hang on a standard gallery hanging system, and each artist will be allowed up to four rods and five hooks. Starting at 8am on Friday, June 3, artists may come and hang their work, for a fee of $35. Artists will be accepted until 2pm, or when the 26 spots are all taken. The June 10 opening is part of the monthly Bethesda Art Walk (the second Friday of each month, 6pm until 9pm), and will remain hanging through June 30, giving every visitor to the school the opportunity to see your work. "Quick Portrait Painting" with Matthew Cuenca – VA

Learn how to paint a completed portrait in oil paint in only eight hours. DRA member and Torpedo Factory artist Matthew Cuenca will be teach this one-day workshop at the Art League School on Tuesday, June 14th. He will be teaching his own technique of alkyd oil painting on a prepared acrylic under-painting. The workshop is eight hours (10am – 6pm) for intermediate and advanced painters. HOT – Capitol Arts Network – MD

Deadline – June 8: Capital Arts Network (CAN) is accepting entries for a July mixed media show, "Hot". What do you think is hot? A new trend, spicy food, a sexy man or woman? Show us your version of HOT in photo, paint, or any 2-D media for this July show. We are looking for turned on, turned up, and scorching hot!
