Third Annual DRA Yard Sale

3rd Annual DRA Yard Sale – INDOORS
(Saturday, May 21, 8am – 2pm)

This Fundraiser is FREE and all money raised will go towards new lighting for the gallery. Need that one of kind item that someone else has donated? We have GREAT JUNK and the gallery needs new lighting, so stop by and see what we are all about. Rain or shine because it's inside the gallery. DRA members may drop off donations at the gallery on Thursday, May 19 from 1-8pm; and Friday, May 20 from 1-8pm. Partners in Art Group

Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. You may find us engaged in a creativity exercise, enjoying a short demonstration or having in a lively art-related discussion. Through it all we will always be striving to inspire and encourage.

Art in City Hall Juried Exhibit Opening & Alexandria Commission for the Arts Reception for Grant Recipients

Monday, May 23, 5:30pm, Room 2000, City Hall: Come early, stay late to enjoy the new Art in City Hall exhibit! City grantees, including DRA, will receive notification of the pending grants from the ACA. Artist awards for the new City Galleries Exhibition schedule will be given as well.


Open Life Drawing Session in May

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models.

Drawing Inspiration from the Figure (Receiving May 29-30)

[DRA Members only]: Call for Entries: thedelrayartisans.org/shows/calls/Due-2011-05-30-Figure.pdf. Receiving: Sunday, May 29 from 5-8pm and Monday, May 30, 2011 from 5-7pm. We look forward to displaying your art that has started from observations of the human figure and developed into all manner of artistic expression. Realistic or abstracted, we are looking to have it in our show. Show us: how does the human figure inform or inspire your art? This all-member show will run from June 3 to June 26.


Alexandria Art Market – Saturday, June 4, 10am–4pm

Alexandria Art Market's 2nd season is now underway. Markets will be held the 1st Saturdays of June, July, August, September and November 2011,10-4 pm, rain or shine. The market boasts amazing artwork from local artists, music from multicultural musicians and great food from local restaurants. Art Camp 2011

Art Camp 2011 - Registration Now Available

Join the Del Ray Artisans as we travel around the world in five days. From July 25-29, students ages 8-14 will experience an international expedition through the arts. Each day, 9 am - 4 pm, will feature projects and activities related to cultural traditions and artistic movements found throughout the world. Cost is $250 before 6/1/11, $275 after 6/1/11. Beyond Form

Beyond Form: Expressing Art Exhibit at Signature Theatre runs through June 12

This is a juried selection of pieces from the recent abstract art show at the DRA gallery. This all media, abstract art show is exhibited in the lobby gallery of Signature Theatre in conjunction with their run of "ART" by Yasmina Reza in which a white-on-white abstract painting plays a leading role! Visit our exhibit whenever the Signature lobby is open, Tuesday - Friday 10 am - 10 pm, Saturday and Sunday noon - 10 pm.

Mural Artist(s) Needed - Alexandria, VA

Taste of America 2011 - DC

Taste of America, Labor Day weekend, is open to any USA based artist/crafter who makes or produces their own work. There are limited amount of spaces available and preference will be given to exhibitors showcasing food related products, such as: wood turners, fine art or photography for kitchen decor, hand-made utensils, jewelry from recycled utensils, ceramics, aprons and other fabrics, home-made sauces, soaps, and much more. Play with your Food in black and white – Alexandria, VA (NEW)

Deadline – June 1: The exhibit at Rampart's Music Tavern will promote the talent of local artists. Entries will be juried by Fierce Sonia a local award winning artist. The show will hang for six months in the Fairlington Room at Rampart's Music Tavern. Artists living or working in the Virginia, Maryland, and DC area are eligible. Mid-Atlantic New Painting 2012 – VA

Deadline – June 1, 2011: The University of Mary Washington Galleries is sponsoring a biennial juried painting exhibition, opening January 2012. Entry Deadline June 1, 2011. Deadline – June 1: Entries are now being accepted for the 5th annual MPAartfest, presented by McLean Project for the Arts, which will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2011. "32 Square Feet" Gallery Show – MD (NEW)

Deadline – June 3: The Washington School of Photography has a unique opportunity for interested artists working in any two-dimensional media to exhibit work and expose their talents to the hundreds of visitors and workshop patrons who visit WSP every week. On Friday, June 10, 2011, WSP will open "32 Square Feet", with space for just 26 artists. Each artist will have a four foot wide, eight feet high wall space, in an unjuried format. Your work must be ready to hang on a standard gallery hanging system, and each artist will be allowed up to four rods and five hooks. Starting at 8am on Friday, June 3, artists may come and hang their work, for a fee of $35. Artists will be accepted until 2pm, or when the 26 spots are all taken. The June 10 opening is part of the monthly Bethesda Art Walk (the second Friday of each month, 6pm until 9pm), and will remain hanging through June 30, giving every visitor to the school the opportunity to see your work. "Quick Portrait Painting" with Matthew Cuenca – VA

Learn how to paint a completed portrait in oil paint in only eight hours. DRA member and Torpedo Factory artist Matthew Cuenca will be teach this one-day workshop at the Art League School on Tuesday, June 14th. He will be teaching his own technique of alkyd oil painting on a prepared acrylic under-painting. The workshop is eight hours (10am – 6pm) for intermediate and advanced painters. 2nd Annual Big Cherry Block Party – Take 2 – MD

Deadline – June 15: The 2nd annual Big Cherry Block Party that was held in April was a great success. Unfortunately, mother nature decided not to cooperate and the festival was closed early. So, we have another chance to celebrate Japan and its culture in July. Downtown Silver Spring is an incredible shopping destination. Last year we had over 9,000 eager shoppers come to the festival, and this year was looking even better. Details capitolmarketplaceevents.com.


Adams Morgan Day festival – DC

Deadline – July 1, 2011: One of the best DC festivals, Adams Morgan Day has kept alive the tradition of street festivals for the past 33 years. Every year it draws in over 30,000 people. Art on Belmont is a special section of the festival where 45 fine art and craft exhibitors line the tree shaded street with amazing hand made art. HOT – Capitol Arts Network – MD (NEW)

Deadline – June 8: Capital Arts Network (CAN) is accepting entries for a July mixed media show, "Hot". What do you think is hot? A new trend, spicy food, a sexy man or woman?
