Michaela Murphy wins Eicher Award at Student Show

The 2004 recipient of the Ted Eichers Art Scholarship is Michaela Murphy. Her oil on canvas self-portrait narrowly edged out other strong contenders. An number of 1st, 2nd, 3rd place awards also were made.

This year’s show was the largest ever in terms of works presented by students of Alexandria’s middle and high schools.

Over 400 works were set-up, hung and arranged for display by curator Linda Silk and a group of volunteers including, Karen Schmitz, Ellyn Ferguson, Kathryn Brown and Dave Nicholson.

This was the 8th consecutive year DRA has been the sponsoring organization for this unique “young talent” show.

newsletter, and invitations to special events and shows.

More news on the membership front:

Dues - They will not be raised this year.
Member Participation - Volunteering has always been an expectation of DRA membership. However, the recent low rate of volunteerism makes it necessary for the Board to enact the requirement that all  non-corporate DRA members perform 10 volunteer hours annually. This small amount of time can be spread over the course of a year in a variety of ways.

On the last page of this newsletter, you will find our new Membership Form, which lists areas where volunteers are needed. Whether joining as a new member or renewing your existing membership, please do not forget to indicate how you will support Del Ray Artisans.
