Kondo vs. Chaos

Call for Entry: Kondo vs. Chaos

Digital entries due: Monday, January 6 by midnight. The Kondo vs. Chaos exhibit examines two versions of “stuff”: (1) the Marie Kondo minimizing theory where you only keep the things that “bring you joy” and where everything is precisely ordered, and (2) the chaos reality where there’s no discernible order and everywhere you look you see objects that remind you of your life. Artists may integrate one or both aspects and are encouraged to explore their heart and psyche when creating. Open to all area artists. The exhibit will run February 7 - March 1, 2020. Details at DelRayArtisans.org/2019/11/kondo-chaos-cfe

Students will sprinkle layers of glass powder on glass disks, using contrasting colors; a spray of water in-between layers “sets” them in place; then“carve” designs into the many layers using numerous tools. Return on Friday, January 24 from 6:30-7:30pm to discuss results and pick up the final fired pieces. Instructor: Betsy Mead. Register by January 14 at DelRayArtisans.org/event/freaky-batiky/

Meetup is free, but please bring a cell phone or tablet with capabilities of downloading apps on site. Register by January 16 at DelRayArtisans.org/event/digital-art-painting

Workshop: Hand Carving Rubber Stamps

Saturday, January 25 from 11am-3pm. Learn the basics of printmaking and how to use carving tools and bench hooks to create hand-carved stamps out of rubber erasers and linoleum blocks, which can be used for stamping on fabric and paper. Students will use a rubber brayer to apply ink to the surface of these reusable stamps. Participants will leave with hand carved stamps from their own designs for use in future artwork, as well as reusable tools. Register by January 16 at DelRayArtisans.org/event/rubber-stamps/
