Call for Entry: 2020 Wall Calendar (Members Only)

Digital entries due: Saturday, September 14 by midnight. Members: Submit your best work to the 7th annual Del Ray Artisans' wall calendar! All entries are to be received digitally, and no physical pieces of art will be collected. There is no entry fee, no theme, and work previously shown at the gallery is acceptable. Music-themed Paper Collage

Workshop: Music-themed Paper Collage (This Weekend!)

Sunday, September 15 from 1-3:30pm. Express your musical self as you create a rhythmic collage that blends colorful papers with sheet music and other musical imagery. Participants will take home an 8" x 10" music-themed collage, matted and ready to frame. Appropriate for both beginners and those with prior collage experience. Friends of ROAM

Benefit Concert to support Friends of ROAM

Friday, September 20 from 8-9:30pm. Friends of ROAM is a volunteer-run, Del Ray-based organization that helps community youth access music lessons that might otherwise be unavailable to them due to costs. Enjoy live music, featuring Jones Point with Modern Relics and The Derds, meet local artists, and help Friends of ROAM bring music to kids’ lives! Workshop: Sound Meditation with Dante

Workshop: Sound Meditation with Dante

Saturday September 21 from 10-11:30am. Using crystal and Tibetan bowls, Dante Baker will lead a soothing asana and breathwork class to prepare the body for sound meditation. In the last hour, Dante will use sound vibration to build awareness and achieve a mentally clear, emotionally calm, and stable state. No experience necessary. Art Inspired by the Twilight Zone

Call for Entry: Art Inspired by the Twilight Zone

Digital entries due: Sunday, September 22 by midnight. The original Twilight Zone took viewers to another dimension. Created by Rod Serling, the show explored humanity’s hopes, despairs, prejudices and more in metaphoric ways that conventional television could not. Art Inspired by The Twilight Zone wants to bring this timeless show to life through art and photography. Journey into your own wondrous land of imagination influenced by The Twilight Zone and create something that will entertain and inspire. Need support reaching your art related goals? Join this collegial group of artists to share your goals and get feedback on artwork. All local artists, from beginners to professionals, and all skill levels are invited. Meetings include discussions on exhibit opportunities, the creative process and the local art scene. Participants may also bring in 1-3 artworks, in any medium, in any stage, to discuss goals, process, and ask for advice. Free, donations ($1-3) greatly appreciated. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Wednesday,September 25 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, September 25 from 6:30-9:30pm (Long Pose)
  • Sunday, October 6 from 9:30-11:30am (Gesture)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. All upcoming sessions may be found in this calendar view.


Creative Spark Book Club

Saturday, September 28 from 10:30am-12pm. We will meet every other month on a Saturday morning, starting in September 2019 to discuss readings by a variety of authors to help you stay inspired and motivated for your creative practice. The club is free and open to members and non-members who are interested in keeping their creative muse flowing and connecting with other like-minded creative people. This club will focus on readings by a variety of authors to help you spark and maintain your creative practice. Topics may include working through creative blocks, incorporating creativity into your daily life, creative goal setting, and more. Details: DelRayArtisans.org/event/book-club


High Note Art Exhibit

Runs through Sunday, September 29. Experience High Note, an art exhibit exploring the connection between music and the mind, at Del Ray Artisans gallery. Music can unleash powerful memories, transporting us in space and time. Come see this exhibit to experience how artists captured the high notes from the soundtrack of their lives. Plus buy raffle tickets for a chance to win music lessons from ROAM (Rock of Ages Music) or tickets to a Signature Theatre performance! The raffle benefits Del Ray Artisans nonprofit. Uncommon Alexandria Art Exhibit at VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital

Runs through September 29. The Uncommon Alexandria art exhibit at the VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital (2660 Duke St, Alexandria, VA 22314), features Del Ray Artisans members’ artwork. Call for Entry: $100 & Under (Members only)

Digital entries due: Sunday, October 20 by midnight. Del Ray Artisans is bringing back our popular exhibit from 2015 and 2017, inviting members to submit their best work — all priced at $100 and under. All media and all themes are welcome. Partners in Art: Field-trip to Glenstone Art Museum

Trip date: November 7 from 10:30am-5pm; Ongoing registration. Join other DRA artists on this trip to the great new art museum “Glenstone” over in Potomac, MD. We have tickets for Noon that day and will be leaving about 10:30AM from a convenient location which will be announced later. We will leave Glenstone at 3PM for the trip back. Time-Sensitive Requests

  • Garden Committee Meet-Up (Tomorrow!)
    Saturday, September 14 from 9-11:30am. Come join our garden leaders, Pamela Underhill, Jenny Nicholson, and Jeff Lodge as we work in the garden learning tips on weeding, trimming, etc. Wear appropriate clothing and bring bug spray. If you want to bring your own tools, you may. We'll meet in the DRA garden once a month. Come join us to create a blooming success.
  • Web Posting Volunteers Needed
    The web posting team needs you! We're looking for volunteers to post exhibit and event information to local media outlets. You can choose to take charge of one site (usually less than 15-20 minutes per post), or take on more than one. Web posting can be done from home at your convenience and is an easy way to earn volunteer hours. If interested, contact Kate at Post@DelRayArtisans.org

  • Curate/Coordinate an Exhibit outside the Gallery

Call for Artists: My Queer Valentine

Deadline: Sunday, September 15. Target Gallery invites artists working in all visual media to apply to My Queer Valentine, a group exhibition that will explore love and relationships through LGBTQ+ artists perspectives. The themes and subject of artwork in this exhibition should explore non-heteronormative and non-binary relationships. The tone of the exhibition is playful, fun, and cheeky, so we encourage artists to apply with their perspectives on love (romantic or asexual) with this in mind. To celebrate this exhibition, Target Gallery will be hosting a special Valentine’s Day reception and event in partnership with local LGBTQ+ organizations. $35 for three submissions. Exhibition Dates: Jan. 25 – March 8, 2020. More Information.


Education: WALA Copyright Workshop

September 18 from 7-9pm. Do you have a creative work that you want to copyright? Come learn how at this presentation and Q & A session presented by the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA) and the Copyright Alliance team up at the fantastic Entertainment Software Association headquarters to teach the basics of copyright. Call for Artists: Organica II

Call for Artists: 2020 Emerging Artists

Deadline: Sunday, October 28. Target Gallery presents a new yearly exhibition featuring the work of 3-4 regional emerging artists. This exhibition spotlights new talent and the up-and-coming artistic innovators of the D.C. metropolitan area. Each artist will receive a $500 stipend. The selected artists will be chosen by a panel of 3 jurors, all art experts based in the D.C. metropolitan area. Eligibility: Artists should have no more than 5 years of experience as a professional exhibiting artist, live within D.C., Maryland, or Virginia, and have never had a solo exhibition in a professional gallery space (excluding BFA/MFA exhibitions). Entry fee $35. Exhibition Dates: April 10 - May 31, 2020. More Information.


Call for Artists: Art on the Avenue 2019

Open until all spaces are filled. Art on the Avenue is a multi-cultural arts festival celebrating our community’s diversity through the arts in the Del Ray neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia. This festival will be held rain or shine on October 5, 2019. The fee for show participation is $225. More information


Call for Artists: Alexandria Waterfront Art & Craft Market

No Deadline; Rolling Applications. Riverside Taco Co is the newest Alexandria Restaurant Partners' food venue, located on the Alexandria Waterfront boardwalk, next to Torpedo Factory.
