Painting the Chakra Energies

Workshop: Painting the Chakra Energies (Tomorrow!)

Saturday, June 15 from 10am-12pm. Learn to use a variety of tools for layering and taking away acrylic paint to create works that represent the energies of the chakras. During this workshop you will create unique pieces reflecting your journey with the chakras. Instructor: Nancy Ramsey. Plus any current member who recruited a new member between February and May 2019 is invited to enter 1 piece of artwork for FREE. Fresh Meat does not have a theme and is the perfect opportunity to showcase any and all styles/mediums of your artwork. Show runs August 2 – September 1. Del Ray Artisans’ Spirit Night at McDonald’s

Thursday, June 20 from 4pm-7pm. McDonald’s is generously donating a percentage of sales between 4-7pm to our nonprofit art organization. During this event, you’ll also have the opportunity to see and purchase artwork from Del Ray Artisans at McDonald’s (1000 N Henry Street, Alexandria VA 22314)! Releasing Energy Blocks: A Gong Sound Meditation

Workshop: Releasing Energy Blocks: A Gong Sound Meditation

Sunday, June 23 from 9:30-11am. This experiential workshop begins with an easy but effective breath exercise, followed by a guided meditation to energize the chakra system to release energetic blocks, stimulate circulation. No experience necessary. Please bring a yoga mat or blanket, as well as a cushion for seated meditation if needed. Instructor: Monique Durfuss. Summer Youth Art Camp

Summer Youth Art Camp – Register Now!

Del Ray Artisans invites children ages 8-14 to spend a week creating art with professional artist instruction. All artist supplies are provided. Register for either Week One (July 15-19) or Week Two (July 22-26). Camp is from 9am-3pm daily, with an exhibit of the artwork on the Saturday after camp from 1-3pm. Cost is $325/child. Make Crystal and Gemstone Earrings

June 23 from 5-7:30pm. Instructor: Kate Gibney. Learn how to make earrings for yourself or as a gift, using a wide variety of semi precious gemstones and crystals with your choice of metal base (all hypoallergenic). (Register by June 21)


Wire-wrapped Rings

June 27 from 6:30-9pm. Instructor: Kate Gibney. Learn to use wire cutters, chain nose and round nose pliers in combination with wire and semi-precious loose stones to make a one-of-a-kind wire wrapped ring. All materials are included. What you make in the class is yours to take home! (Register by June 25)


Mixed Media Mandalas

June 28 from 7-9pm. Instructor: Jackie Tury. Take a moment to relax, center yourself and create a beautiful mixed media mandala. You will be led in a brief guided meditation and short discussion before creating your own mandala. (Register by June 21)


Sketchcrawling in the Summer

June 30, July 28, and/or August 25 from 2-5pm. Instructor: Joan Bickelhaupt. Sign up for one, two, or three sessions to practice quick interior or exterior drawings done in one sitting. The facilitator will suggest different compositional approaches to sketching in ink, pencil, or watercolor. Each session has a different focus: June 30 is Documentary Drawing; July 28 is People and Motion; and August 25 is Color Media. (Register by June 28)


Zines for Tweens

July 1 from 7-8:30pm. Instructor: Stephanie Morse This workshop is perfect for the young adult wanting to tell their story! We'll learn how to make a fast and easy zine and spend time on how to effectively use that layout to tell short stories or, even better, jokes. For ages 9-15. (Register by June 29)


Thinking in 3D

July 6 from 10am-1pm. Instructor: Jonathan Ottke Learn basic sculpting techniques carving in soapstone or plaster and vermiculite. You will sketch an idea to picture what it will look like; then sculpt (using tools such as knives, rasps and saws), sand and finish the artwork. (Register by July 3)

Need support reaching your art related goals? Join this collegial group of artists to share your goals and get feedback on artwork. All local artists, from beginners to professionals, and all skill levels are invited. Meetings include discussions on exhibit opportunities, the creative process and the local art scene. Participants may also bring in 1-3 artworks, in any medium, in any stage, to discuss goals, process, and ask for advice. Free, donations ($1-3) greatly appreciated. Workshop: Chair Yoga and Meditation

Tuesday, June 25 from 7–8:30pm. Balance body and mind in a mostly seated 75-minute yoga practice. Explore the mindful fusion of movement and breath as it guides us to a better understanding of our true self. This class is suitable for all levels and inclusive of those with limited mobility. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Wednesday, June 26 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, June 26 from 6:30-9:30pm (Long Pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. All upcoming sessions may be found in this calendar view.


Art in Meditation – The Chakras Art Exhibit

Runs through Sunday, June 30. This exhibit, juried by contemporary artist Jeff Erickson, celebrates the seven energy centers of the body—the chakras. The exhibit has an associated Art-To-Go marketplace which will be featured during the Well Ray neighborhood festival on June 22. Details at DelRayArtisans.org/event/chakras


Call for Proposals: 2020 Art Exhibits at Del Ray Artisans

Proposals due: Monday, July 1 by midnight. Del Ray Artisans is currently soliciting show proposals for 2020. Del Ray Artisans strives to offer exhibits that reach a broad and diverse audience, encourage artistic development, and represent a wide variety of art forms. The Exhibit Proposal Committee will review all proposals and make recommendations to the Board for final approval. Call for Entry: High Note

Digital entries due: Sunday, August 11 by midnight. This exhibit will explore the connections between music and the mind. Music has a profound influence on us, shaping the way we feel and think. We often associate music with major life events. Artists are encouraged to submit works that capture the high notes from the soundtrack of their lives. Open to all area artists and juried by Britt Conley, a visual soundscape artist who paints and draws music, its physics, sound shapes, and concepts from her studio at the Workhouse Arts Center. Uncommon Alexandria Art Exhibit at VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital

Runs through September 29. The Uncommon Alexandria art exhibit at the VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital (2660 Duke St, Alexandria, VA 22314), features Del Ray Artisans members’ artwork.   • Support Del Ray Artisans’ Spirit Night at McDonald’s
    Seeking volunteers for June 20 from 4-7pm at McDonald's (1000 N Henry Street, Alexandria VA 22314). Volunteers will greet customers, hand out food at the take-out window and behind the counter, and (most importantly) talk with the customers about the art on display, Del Ray Artisans organization and gallery. Curating & Curator Support

  • Curate/Coordinate an Exhibit outside the Gallery
    Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls program is seeking volunteers to coordinate exhibits with specific venues. The program is flexible to incorporate your ideas and value your time. Contact Monica at GWW@DelRayArtisans.org and Brittany at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Join the Curating Team!

Open until all spaces are filled. Art on the Avenue is a multi-cultural arts festival celebrating our community’s diversity through the arts in the Del Ray neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia.
