Call for Entry: Art in Meditation - The Chakras
Digital entries due: Sunday, May 12 by midnight. This exhibit will celebrate the seven energy centers of the body, or chakras, and the associated meanings, moods, and colors. The curators are seeking artwork interpretations of the chakra energies. The exhibit will be juried by contemporary artist Jeff Erickson. The exhibit is open to all area artists. Show runs June 6-30. Workshop: Goddess-Wear – Creating Leather Jewelry

Workshop: Playing with Resin – Curves and Edges Edition
Sunday, May 19 from 6-9pm. Play with resin in a safe environment to learn the ins & outs of mixing resin and using it in your artwork with instructor Tracy Wilkerson. While in the class, we’ll briefly explore the concepts of curves and edges, and how that relates to artistic design. You’ll leave your finished masterpiece(s) to set & cure at the gallery at the end of the workshop, but you’ll be able to pick them up during gallery hours later in the week. Register in advance. 2019 Membership Drive
Now through May 31. Del Ray Artisans is hosting a special, invitational exhibit in August titled Fresh Meat. Each new member (joining between January 2018 and May 2019) is invited to enter three pieces of artwork for FREE. During our Membership Drive from February–May 2019, any current member who recruits a new member is also invited to enter one piece of artwork in this exhibit for FREE. Bring guests, family, friends, and neighbors to visit the gallery, attend opening receptions, or sign up for a workshop to become more familiar with our nonprofit arts organization. Summer Youth Art Camp – Register Now!
Discount now until June 1. Del Ray Artisans invites children ages 8-14 to spend a week creating art with professional artist instruction. All artist supplies are provided. Register for either Week One (July 15-19) or Week Two (July 22-26). Camp is from 9am-3pm daily, with an exhibit of the artwork on the Saturday after camp from 1-3pm. Need support reaching your art related goals? Join this collegial group of artists to share your goals and get feedback on artwork. All local artists, from beginners to professionals, and all skill levels are invited. Meetings include discussions on exhibit opportunities, the creative process and the local art scene. Participants may also bring in 1-3 artworks, in any medium, in any stage, to discuss goals, process, and ask for advice. Free, donations ($1-3) greatly appreciated. Call for Entry: Uncommon Alexandria at VCA Alexandria
Digital entries due: Tuesday, May 21 by midnight. Seeking two-dimensional artwork inspired by common scenes of our daily lives, neighborhoods, towns, and communities. 1st priority will go to scenes within Alexandria and Del Ray, 2nd priority will go to scenes within the local MidAltantic region (Virginia, D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, etc). These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Member Meeting/Benefit Program: Live Courageously, talk by Nancy Belmont
Thursday, May 23 from 7-9pm. After a brief member meeting, Del Ray Artisans presents this FREE program to our members: Guest speaker Nancy Belmont will give a talk called “Live Courageously,” based on her work with hundreds of leaders and interactions with thousands of participants in her public art projects. Workshop: Exploring Flamenco & Odissi

Re-Connecting Threads at VCA Alexandria
Runs through Sunday, June 2. The Re-Connecting Threads art exhibit takes another look at artists’ traditional and non-traditional ways to manipulate fiber in art by revisiting the November 2018 Connecting Threads Del Ray Artisans gallery exhibit. Re-Connecting Threads features Del Ray Artisans members’ artwork through a Gallery Without Walls (GWW) program in partnership with the Veterinary Clinics of America Alexandria Animal Hospital (VCA Alexandria). Workshop: Meditation, Breath, and Sound with Dante
Saturday, June 8 from 10-11:30am. Using crystal and Tibetan bowls, Dante will lead a soothing asana and breathwork class to prepare the body for sound meditation. In the last hour, Dante will conclude with a soothing and unique exploration of the chakra energy points through sound vibration. Instructor: Dante Baker. Urban Sketchbooking
Sunday, June 9 from 2-4pm. Urban Sketchbooking emphasizes storytelling that conveys a sense of place or a moment in time through drawings completed from direct observations. Drop-in meetings, during the afternoons of the second Sunday of each month. No need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us to produce still life, figure, or architecture subjects in your sketchbook. The fee for each 2-hour session is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Workshop: Painting the Chakra Energies
Saturday, June 15 from 10am-12pm. Learn to use a variety of tools for layering and taking away acrylic paint to create works that represent the energies of the chakras. Workshop: Releasing Energy Blocks: A Gong Sound Meditation
Sunday, June 23 from 9:30-11am. This experiential workshop begins with an easy but effective breath exercise, followed by a guided meditation to energize the chakra system to release energetic blocks, stimulate circulation. No experience necessary. Please bring a yoga mat or blanket, as well as a cushion for seated meditation if needed. Instructor: Monique Durfuss. Seeking volunteers for May 16 from 4-7pm at McDonald's (1000 N Henry Street, Alexandria VA 22314). Volunteers will greet customers, hand out food at the take-out window and behind the counter, and (most importantly) talk with the customers about the art on display, Del Ray Artisans organization and gallery. To volunteer (including showing some of your artwork), email Mila Mateu at Volunteers@DelRayArtisans.org and include your name, email, best phone number, and preferred date.

Call for Artists: Art on the Avenue 2019
Open until all spaces are filled. Art on the Avenue is a multi-cultural arts festival celebrating our community’s diversity through the arts in the Del Ray neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia. Call for Artists: VisArts: Frame & Frequency V
Deadline: Friday, June 7. Frame & Frequency is an ongoing International Video Art Screening Series presented by VisArts in Rockville, MD, that highlights artists whose new media, experimental film, and video works explore contemporary visual culture, and presents an intimate panorama of the variety of video art. Video, sound art, film, and new media work will be accepted: experimental, documentary, animation, narrative, non-narrative, multimedia, virtual reality, augmented reality, net art, interactive media, etc. All foreign language moving image artworks must have English subtitles. $5 application fee.
