Call for Entry: New Beginnings

Digital entries due: Monday, January 14 by midnight. The EPA estimates that 75% of the American waste stream is recyclable, but we only recycle about 30% of it. Some people are being more conscientious about recycling, and also about reusing. Artwork submitted to this exhibit should contain at least half recycled materials. Recycled materials may be found objects, unusual items, even recycling some of your older art pieces. Open to all area artists. Show runs February 1-24. Call for Entry at DelRayArtisans.org/2018/12/new-beginnings-cfe/

Card Making Party

Sunday, January 20 from 3-7pm. Come to the gallery to gather around our crafting tables and create greeting cards you would never find anywhere else. Each card becomes its own work of art as participants “treasure hunt” through papers, images, supplies, and ephemera for embellishing. You have the option to donate the cards made to DRA or a small monetary contribution for time and supplies. No experience necessary. Details: DelRayArtisans.org/event/card-making-party-2/

Partners in Art Evening

Tuesday, January 22 from 7-9pm. All local artists, from beginners to professionals, are invited. We discuss the local art scene, exhibit opportunities, share artistic goals, techniques, media, and creative processes. Enjoy the collegiality and support of your fellow artists! Participants may also bring in 1-3 artworks, in any medium, in any stage, to discuss goals, process, and ask for advice. Free, donations ($1-3) greatly appreciated. Schedule at DelRayArtisans.org/partnersinart

Bringing Words to Life Exhibit at VCA Alexandria

Runs through Sunday, January 27. Whether written, spoken, or sung, words evoke emotion and meaning that stay with us long after they are finished. Bringing Words to Life pairs a line from an artist's favorite song, poem, book, or speech with the artist's visual interpretation of that quote. This Del Ray Artisans Gallery Without Walls exhibit is at the VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital, 2660 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Details: DelRayArtisans.org/event/bringing-words-to-life
