Partners in Art Evening

Tuesday, September 25 from 7-9pm. All local artists, from beginners to professionals, are invited. We discuss the local art scene, exhibit opportunities, share artistic goals, techniques, media, and creative processes. Enjoy the collegiality and support of your fellow artists! Participants may also bring in 1-3 artworks, in any medium, in any stage, to discuss goals, process, and ask for advice. Free, donations ($1-3) greatly appreciated. Del Ray Artisans' Spirit Night at McDonald's (Next Week!)

Thursday, September 27 from 4-7pm. Support Del Ray Artisans by attending Spirit Night at McDonald’s on 1000 N Henry Street, Alexandria VA 22314 from 4-7pm! McDonald’s is generously donating 15% of sales on September 27 and October 11, 2018 between 4-7pm to our nonprofit. Eat, Drink and be Merry

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry Art Exhibit

Runs through Sunday, September 30. Eat, Drink, and Be Merry celebrates the way food and drink bring people together and joy to our lives. Art inspired by food, real or metaphorical, that nourishes the viewer is exhibited. This exhibit combines a National Ceramic Show focused on vessels for the table with a regional art exhibit. Atomic Cat & Dog

Atomic Dog and Consequential Cat at VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital

Runs through September 30. Del Ray Artisans and VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital present Atomic Dog and Consequential Cat, an exhibit inspired by our furry friends. This show features a selection of artwork by Del Ray Artisans members from the Atomic Dog exhibit, as well as hand-picked artwork honoring our feline companions. The show can be viewed during regular business hours at the animal hospital (located at 2660 Duke Street). Details at DelRayArtisans.org/event/dog-and-cat

Monday, October 8 from 2-4pm. Need support reaching your art related goals? Join this collegial group of artists to share your goals and get feedback on artwork. Monthly meetings include discussions on exhibit opportunities, the creative process and the local art scene. Artist can bring 1-3 works - complete or in progress - for feedback. Call for Entry: Connecting Threads

Digital entries due: Saturday, October 13 by midnight. Fiber art communicates some sort of message, emotion, or meaning and goes beyond the literal definition of the materials. This exhibit focuses on fiber art, but is open to all mediums. The curators are seeking artwork that features fiber and textiles as a major component in construction and/or as a part of the subject matter. This exhibit celebrates fiber and how it is used to connect us to the stories of our lives. Open to all area artists. Artistic Artifacts is sponsoring 4 artist awards. Show runs November 2-25. Workshop: Leather Mask Making

Tuesday, October 16 from 6-10pm. Learn basic and intermediate leather working skills while creating a custom fitted mask to take home. We'll cover everything from pattern tracing and leather cutting to embossing designs using traditional tools. Students will have access to a variety of design stamps that will give them a chance to personalize their project. Instructor: Lynn Fernandez. Cost: $55 for members and $65 for non-members, plus a $20 supply fee. Register by October 14 at DelRayArtisans.org/event/leather-mask-making-2


Leather Working Open Studio Night

Thursday, October 18 from 6-10pm. Lynn Fernandez will provide a wide variety of leather working tools and dyes, as well as guidance on projects during this 4-hour open session. Students may bring their own cased leather or buy leather directly from Lynn. Prerequisite: Must have taken a previous leather working workshop. Cost: $30/member and $40/non-member, plus $5 supply fee (use of tools and dyes). Register by October 16 at DelRayArtisans.org/event/leather-open-studio-2


Workshop: Manifest Your Creative Goals

Saturday, October 27 from 10am-12pm. As artists it can be hard to set goals to making your creative dreams a reality when you have distractions or find yourself procrastinating. This workshop will explore how to help you, the emerging or seasoned artist, get started on reaching your creative goals! Instructor: Sharon Burton. Cost: $35 for DRA members and $50 for non-members. Workshop: Needle Felted Jewelry

Saturday, November 17 from 1-4pm. Learn the basics of how to create 3D Needle Felted Jewelry, as well as basic jewelry techniques. We will also explore using other materials such as beads, charms, and thread to add to our needle felted jewelry pieces. Instructor: Brittany Gabel. Workshop: Creative Revival – 12 Weeks to Nurture & Unblock Your Creativity via The Artist’s Way

Saturday, January 26 from 2-4pm (recurring weekly for 12 weeks). Do you need support to make your creative dreams a reality? You are cordially invited to join the Creative Revival Artist’s Way Circle, a facilitated group by artist and curator Sharon Burton that will meet once a week for 12 weeks as we go through The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. The program is focused on supporting relationships in removing artistic blocks and fostering confidence. Cost: $100 for DRA members and $125 for non-members, plus $25 materials fee (or bring your own “The Artist’s Way Starter Kit”). Space is limited. Time-Sensitive Requests

  • Adopta-Park: Pick Up Litter
    Del Ray Artisans volunteers pick up litter in Colasanto Park, which is a part of the City of Alexandria's Adopt-a-Park program. Inspections are on Mondays, so Sunday is the best pick-up day but not a hard rule. We need volunteers to sign up for weekends now through November 30. If you are interested in assisting, contact Marlin with your preferred weekend at AdoptAPark@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Web Posting Volunteer Needed
    The web posting team needs you! We're looking for a volunteer to post exhibit and event information to Northern Virginia Magazine and/or Eventful Culture. Web posting can be done from home at your convenience. It doesn't take a lot of time and is an easy way to earn volunteer hours. If interested, please contact Kate at post@delrayartisans.org
  • Co-Editor of the Weekly eNews Needed

Grants Director

  • Wanted: Grants Director
    DRA is looking for a Grants Director for 2018/2019. This volunteer position on DRA'€™s Board of Directors has a two-year commitment. Duties include preparing and submitting grants proposals annually to the City of Alexandria and the Commonwealth of Virginia, and following up on prior years'€™ grants with final reports. This is an excellent opportunity to liaise with other Board members, volunteers, and City officials and to learn about the inner workings of DRA. Call for Entry: 2019 Emerging Artists

Deadline: September 30. Target Gallery presents a new yearly exhibition featuring the work of 3 regional emerging artists. This exhibition spotlights new talent and the up-and-coming artistic innovators of the D.C. metropolitan area. Artists should have no more than 5 years of experience as a professional exhibiting artist, live within D.C., Maryland, or Virginia, and have never had an solo exhibition in a professional gallery space (excluding BFA/MFA exhibitions). 2019 Post Graduation Residency

Deadline: October 7. The Torpedo Factory Post-Grad Residency is a competitive juried program that provides meaningful support and 3-month term solo studio space. This residency is open to recently-graduated students who earned a bachelor'€™s or master'€™s art degree from an accredited university. Submissions are open for both art school students in the region and nationwide, provided nationwide artists submit proof of their permanent residence in the area and/or commitment of contributing to the ongoing future of the DC/Maryland/Virginia arts scene. Frame & Frequency is an ongoing International Video and Sound Art Exchange program presented concurrently at VisArts in our In(Site) Project Gallery in Rockville, MD and at PLECTO Galeria in Medellín, Colombia, opening December 7, 2018.
