A Touch of Magic Art Exhibit Opening Reception (Tonight!)

Del Ray Artisans’ A Touch of Magic exhibit is inspired by the subtle, simple, complex, or bold magic that creates life’s special moments, fulfilled dreams, rare experiences, and fosters the recognition of beauty. Atomic Dog

Call for Entry: Atomic Dog

Digital entries due: Monday, April 23 by midnight. Sponsored by The Dog Store of Del Ray, Del Ray Artisans is accepting submissions for Atomic Dog, a show for dog lovers and artists of all breeds. Artistic expressions of canines and their characteristics of all kinds are welcome, whether realistic or abstract. This show will include, but not be limited to, photography, painting, sculpture, and inventive mixed media. Tap into your inner dog and apply for this show. Open only to Del Ray Artisans members. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Sunday, April 8 from 9:30-11:30am (Gesture)
  • Wednesday, April 11 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, April 11 from 6:30-9:30pm (Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, April 25 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose, Clothed, FREE)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Partners in Art

Monday, April 9 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. Alexandria “Love Your Pet Day” Block Party

Sunday, April 29 from 11am-2pm. Join the block party hosted by our Gallery Without Walls partner: VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital! Del Ray Artisans is excited to participate in this fun community event that features food trucks, demos, kids’ entertainment, vendors and more – fun for the whole family, leashed pets welcomed! Thursday, May 3 from 6-9pm. Del Ray Artisans celebrates First Thursday, a Del Ray community event from 6-9pm along Mount Vernon Avenue from April through September. Youth Art Camp – Registration is now Open!

Early bird discount until June 1. Del Ray Artisans invites young campers to spend a week creating art with professional artist instruction. All artist supplies are provided. Register for either Week One (July 16-20) or Week Two (July 23-27). Camp is from 9am-3pm daily, with an exhibit of the artwork on the Saturday after camp from 1-3pm. Reinvention at VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital

Runs through June 10. Del Ray Artisans presents Reinvention, a Gallery Without Walls exhibit, with member artists reinventing old artwork or themselves in 2-dimensional pieces to celebrate the new renovations at the VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital, 2660 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Call for Proposals: 2019 Art Exhibits at Del Ray Artisans

Proposals due: Sunday, July 1 by midnight. Del Ray Artisans is currently soliciting show proposals for 2019. Del Ray Artisans strives to offer exhibits that reach a broad and diverse audience, encourage artistic development, and represent a wide variety of art forms. The show proposal committee will review all proposals and make recommendations to the Board for final approval. Curating & Curator Support

  • Seeking Curating Apprentice
    Are you interested in learning about exhibit curating at Del Ray Artisans? Are you looking for a way to get more involved? Would you like a volunteer position that would also bump up your art resume? The Director of Curating is looking for an apprentice to shadow her and learn the ropes, with the eventual goal of assuming her position.   • Curate/Coordinate an Exhibit outside the Gallery
    Del Ray Artisans’ Gallery Without Walls program is seeking volunteers to coordinate exhibits with specific venues. The program is flexible to incorporate your ideas and value your time. Contact Eileen at GWW@DelRayArtisans.org and Kathy at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Join the Curating Team!
    Volunteer to curate or assist a curator (hanging artwork, data entry / spreadsheets, distributing postcards, people skills). Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Kathy at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org

Photography

  • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact David at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Artwork Photographers
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of each piece of artwork in a show (as well as some overall gallery shots) for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Contact David at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Flickr Contributor
    Seeking volunteers to process photos for our Flickr Photostream. Task involves cropping, downsizing, color correcting (if needed), and adding meta data (e.g. artist name, title, media, price, show). Must have Photoshop or comparable application. Contact David at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org

  • Help plan workshops and events for Del Ray Artisans

OTHER REGIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS

Call for Entry: Illuminate

Deadline: April 29. Target Gallery invites national and international artists to apply for Illuminate, a special glow-in-the-dark exhibition that is focused on the relationship between art and light. The lights will be turned off in the gallery, turning the viewer’s attention to the illuminated artwork whether it be through the lighting of video, light installation/sculpture, or use of black light mediums. Call for Artists: Art on the Avenue 2018

Apply by June 1 to be in the first round of judging. Art on the Avenue is a multicultural arts festival organized by the Del Ray Community Partnership. The show welcomes applications from all craft artists and is known for high quality artwork. All work must be original, handmade, created and exhibited by the approved artist. Standard booth rate is $210. The event is Saturday, October 6 from 10am-6pm. Details: ArtontheAvenue.org
