Captured-Beauty

Captured Beauty Photography Exhibition Opening Reception

Friday, October 6 from 7-9pm. Del Ray Artisans and Union 206 Studio present “Captured Beauty” exhibition showcasing artists’ visions of beauty as fine art photography. The camera is a tool to make art revealing the artist’s vision and producing a personal – evocative or atmospheric, yet aesthetic – statement. The exhibit runs October 6-29, 2017. Art on the Avenue

Art on the Avenue

Saturday, October 7 from 10-6pm. Art on the Avenue, a multicultural arts festival celebrating our community's diversity through the arts in Alexandria, Virginia. There will be entertainment for all ages, art activities, food and over 300 artists displaying and selling their work all along Mount Vernon Avenue. Annual Member Meeting

The annual member meeting will be held on Thursday, October 19 at 7pm and all members in good standing will vote on the nominations for the 2018 Board of Directors. Attend the meeting and enjoy the October exhibit "Capture Beauty" plus hear more about the innovative 2018 exhibit schedule. Del Ray Artisans is looking for members to serve on the Board of Directors in 2018, especially in the seats of the President, Director of Grants & Sponsorship, Director of Programs, Director of Volunteers, and Director of Youth Programs. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Sunday, October 8 from 9:30-11:30am (Gesture, Clothed Model)
  • Wednesday, October 11 from 2-5 pm (Short/Long Pose)

  • Wednesday, October 25 from 2-5 pm (Short/Long Pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Partners in Art

Monday, October 9 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. Call for Entry: $100 and Under

Digital entries due: Friday, October 20 by midnight. Del Ray Artisans invites members to submit their best work priced at $100 and under. All media and all themes are welcome. Art that has previously been shown is welcome in this exhibit. The art will be sold on an art-to-go basis, with buyers taking art home when purchased. Call for Entry: 2018 Wall Calendar (Members Only)

Digital entries due: Saturday, October 21. Members: Submit your best work to the 5th annual Del Ray Artisans' wall calendar! All entries are to be received digitally, and no physical pieces of art will be collected. There is no entry fee, no theme, and work previously shown at the gallery is acceptable. Your Del Ray Artisans membership must be up-to-date. This calendar is a fundraiser to benefit Del Ray Artisans, but also a fun way to show your support for our arts organization and share your talent with the community. Workshop: Love to Make Stuff from Stuff

Saturday, October 28 from 10am-12pm. Join artist and instructor Rusty Lynn in a workshop where you can learn and explore how to make small or large sculptures and figures from boxes with glue, wire, tape, bits of plastic, ephemera, oddities, and acrylic paint. The sky is the only limit! Instructor will provide supplies, but feel free to bring your own. Please register in advance. Time-Sensitive Requests

  • Seeking Volunteers to DRA Art on the Avenue Tent
    We need your help! Volunteers needed to man the DRA tent at Art on the Avenue, Saturday, Oct 7, 10am-6pm. Stay for 1-2 hours, talk to festival goers, direct them to visit the gallery and sell some DRA merchandise. If you are interested, contact volunteers@delrayartisans.org
  • Seeking Volunteers to Organize Holiday Market
    You will be the brains behind the event planning and organization for the holiday market that runs the first three weekends in December. If you are interested, please contact Betsy at Gallery@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Nominating Committee Members
    This is a short-term position with a job to be completed by mid-October. The Nominating Committee puts together the slate of candidates for the 2018 Board of Directors.   • Adopt-a-Park: Pick Up Litter
    Del Ray Artisans volunteers pick up litter in Colasanto Park, which is a part of the City of Alexandria's Adopt-a-Park program. Inspections are on Mondays, so Sunday is the best pick-up day but not a hard rule. We need volunteers to sign up for weekends now through November 30. If you are interested in assisting, contact Marlin with your preferred weekend at AdoptAPark@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Web Posting Volunteers Needed
    The web posting team needs you! We're looking for volunteers to post exhibit and event information to Virginia.org and Northern Virginia Magazine websites. Web posting can be done from home at your convenience. It doesn't take a lot of time and is an easy way to earn volunteer hours. If interested, please contact Kate at k.gibney@hotmail.com

  • Curate/Coordinate an Exhibit outside the Gallery

  • Join the Curating Team!

    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photographers Needed to Document Shows
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of each piece of artwork in a show (as well as some overall gallery shots) for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org

    Seeking volunteers to process photos for our Flickr Photostream. Task involves cropping, downsizing, color correcting (if needed), and adding meta data (e.g. artist name, title, media, price, show). Must have Photoshop or comparable application. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Seeking Videographer / Film Maker
    Seeking a volunteer to record a Del Ray Artisans workshop and edit for online viewing. Alternative option is to create an online course explaining an art or art-related activity. Contact John at VP@DelRayArtisans.org

Art on the Avenue Seeking Artist Demonstrators

Are you interested in a hosting a demonstration booth at Art on the Avenue? The festival is held rain or shine on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Artists are invited to not only sell their work, but to actively demonstrate it throughout the day. This is a fun way to engage festival goers and to show off your art. The best part? The standard $195 artist tent-fee is waived for artist demonstrators! Previous demonstration booths include: painting, soap making, screen printing, sock puppet, quilting, card making, etc. If you are interested in applying for a tent, please submit an application.


National Disability Awareness

Deadline: October 14. The United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Disability Working Group is hosting a National Disability Employment Awareness Month event on October 26. As part of the event, they will be exhibiting artwork focusing on ability, accessibility, inclusion, and the struggles in the disabled community. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is interested in exhibiting paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, photographs, statues, 3D artwork, poems, songs, spoken word, and performance pieces. Please download the submission guidelines and form to submit your artwork. Contact the USPTO Disability Working Group with any questions at dwg@uspto.gov
