Call for Entry: Captured Beauty - A Photography Exhibition
Digital entries due: Saturday, August 26 by midnight. Del Ray Artisans and Union 206 Studio are seeking fine art photography that showcases artists’ visions of beauty. Fine art photography is about how the artist communicates their vision, whether an idea, a message, or an emotion. Art pieces will demonstrate careful staging, composition and lighting of the subject, as well thoughtful post-processing techniques (if desired) and selection of production material to make an individual expression. Clowning Around Art Exhibit (Final Weekend)
Runs through Sunday, August 27. This exhibit reveals the inner clown of local artists in fun, playful, sadistic, comedic, and tragic ways. Clowns evoke various emotions, from childlike whimsy to a carnival of crazy clowns. Join us in this happy and scary romp with a truly American genre. Details at DelRayArtisans.org

Childhood Passions Art Exhibit Opening Reception
Friday, September 1 from 7-9pm. What were you passionate about as a child? Was it playful, fun, and made you feel alive? This spirit is captured in the Childhood Passions exhibit as artists honor childhood passions that are lost as we grow up. Recapture the joy of a child. Join us at the opening reception to enjoy the artwork and meet the curators, artists, and other art appreciators. The exhibit runs September 1 – October 1, 2017. Accessorize Your Anniversary T-Shirt Contest
Friday, September 1 from 7-9pm. During the Childhood Passions opening reception you will have a chance to "clown around" by coming dressed in your accessorized 25th Anniversary T-Shirt. Be creative and add jewelry, scarves, jackets, pins, fringe, tattoos, colored hair or whatever gives it your style. Each participant will be entered into a raffle to be drawn at the end of the night. If you don't yet have a 25th Anniversary T-Shirt, you can pick one up at the gallery during regular business hours or at the member meeting on August 20.

Life Drawing - Open Sessions

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Partners in Art
Monday, September 11 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. This program is free of charge and open to all. Donations ($1–3) greatly appreciated. Twisted Masterpieces Auction at Port City Brewing
Thursday, September 28 from 6-9pm. Join Del Ray Artisans for an evening of art at Port City Brewing Company! This event is the Twisted Masterpieces silent auction of 2D and 3D artwork and live auction of funky furniture! The work has been juried into the auction with the most “twisted” pieces highlighted. All the artwork has been donated by the artists. Proceeds from the auctions benefit Del Ray Artisans and help us continue current activities and expand our mission of promoting art in the community. The brewery is located at 3950 Wheeler Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22304. Tickets to the event are $25 each and will be sold in advance only. Determination Art Exhibit at VCA Alexandria
Runs through September 17. Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls program and VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital presents Del Ray Artisans members’ interpretations of overcoming life’s challenges. Patrons may view the artwork at VCA Alexandria during regular business hours and at the discretion of hospital staff. Artists are donating 20% of the purchase price of sold pieces in an equal split between Del Ray Artisans and the VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital’s charity of choice, Veterans Moving Forward. Call for Entry: $100 and Under
Digital entries due: Friday, October 20 by midnight. Del Ray Artisans invites members to submit their best work priced at $100 and under. All media and all themes are welcome. Art that has previously been shown is welcome in this exhibit. The art will be sold on an art-to-go basis, with buyers taking art home when purchased. - Seeking Volunteers for Twisted Masterpieces Auction at Port City Brewing Company
DRA's third 25th anniversary event will be a party and fundraiser on Thursday, September 28 at Port City Brewing called: Twisted Masterpieces. This event will be a silent and live auction of artwork donated by DRA member masters. The live auction will be found furniture turned into masterpieces.To volunteer your time to help plan or staff the event, contact Kurt at Facilities@DelRayArtisans.org
- Seeking Director of Youth Programs
You will be the brains behind youth programs during the year—especially the Youth Art Camps in July. This is a voting board position and requires attending monthly board meetings. - Adopt-a-Park: Pick Up Litter
Del Ray Artisans volunteers pick up litter in Colasanto Park, which is a part of the City of Alexandria's Adopt-a-Park program. Inspections are on Mondays, so Sunday is the best pick-up day but not a hard rule. We need volunteers to sign up for weekends now through November 30. - Web Posting Volunteers Needed
The web posting team needs you! We're looking for volunteers to post exhibit and event information to Virginia.org and Northern Virginia Magazine websites. - Photographers Needed to Document Shows

- Seeking Videographer / Film Maker

The CHAW Gallery Residency
Deadline: September 6. The CHAW Gallery Residency (Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Washington, DC) offers six weeks of time and residency to an artist or team of artists each year to experiment and realize new work. In 2018, CHAW will host the Gallery Resident Artist or Artist Team from March 1 through April 14. Details at www.chaw.org/artist-residency
Grant Opportunity Call for Entry
Postmarked no later than September 15. The Franz and Virginia Bader Fund have grants for area artists age 40 and older. Grantees must live within 150 miles of DC. Grants may be used for any aspect of your art. See the website for additional information and on how to apply: www.baderfund.org
Target Gallery “Interlude: Unfinished Works” Call for Entry
Deadline: September 24. Target Gallery, contemporary exhibition space of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, invites national and international artists working in all-media to apply. This exhibition gives the spotlight to the artistic process. Curator Betsy Johnson of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is the juror. Art on the Avenue Seeking Artist Demonstrators
Are you interested in a hosting a demonstration booth at Art on the Avenue? The festival is held rain or shine on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Artists are invited to not only sell their work, but to actively demonstrate it throughout the day. This is a fun way to engage festival goers and to show off your art. The best part? The standard $195 artist tent-fee is waived for artist demonstrators! Previous demonstration booths include: painting, soap making, screen printing, sock puppet, quilting, card making, etc. If you are interested in applying for a tent, please submit an application.
