Twisted Masterpieces

Call for Donations: Twisted Masterpieces

Digital entries due: Monday, August 14 by midnight. We will close our 25th Anniversary celebrations this year with an auction event called Twisted Masterpieces at Port City Brewing Company. There will be a live auction of found & rejuvenated furniture by invited artists and a silent auction of donated 2-D and 3-D art pieces. This Call for Donations requests donated works of art for the silent auction. All donating artists will be acknowledged in the program, and a donation receipt will be given to those artists. You may donate a new piece or an old one; all donated artwork is much appreciated. The proceeds from the silent auction benefit Del Ray Artisans to preserve its current activities and continue to promote art in the community. Open to all area artists. Pie Contest

Member Meeting and Annual Pie Contest

Sunday, August 20 from 5-7pm. To Bake or not to Bake that is the question. Whether you choose to make a delicious sweet or savory pie for the Pie Contest or not, we want you to attend the Member Meeting, Sunday, August 20 from 5-7pm. In addition to the Annual Pie Contest, Pork Barrel BBQ's generous discount enables us to serve their delicious bbq at our Indoor Picnic. Childhood Passion

Call for Entry: Childhood Passions

Digital entries due: Monday, August 21 by midnight. Artists are invited to create artwork that honors our childhood passions that we tend to lose sight of as we grow up and/or art that captures or brings out the joy of a child. Call for Entry: Captured Beauty - A Photography Exhibition

Digital entries due: Saturday, August 26 by midnight. Del Ray Artisans and Union 206 Studio are seeking fine art photography that showcases artists’ visions of beauty. Fine art photography is about how the artist communicates their vision, whether an idea, a message, or an emotion. Art pieces will demonstrate careful staging, composition and lighting of the subject, as well thoughtful post-processing techniques (if desired) and selection of production material to make an individual expression. Anniversary T-shirt

Accessorize Your Anniversary T-Shirt Contest

Friday, September 1 from 7-9pm. During the Childhood Passions opening reception you will have a chance to "clown around" by coming dressed in your accessorized 25th Anniversary T-Shirt. Be creative and add jewelry, scarves, jackets, pins, fringe, tattoos, colored hair or whatever gives it your style. Each participant will be entered into a raffle to be drawn at the end of the night. If you don't yet have a 25th Anniversary T-Shirt, you can pick one up at the gallery during regular business hours or at the member meeting on August 20.

Del Ray Artisans 25th Anniversary! T-shirts sizes small through XL ($25 each) and XXL ($27 each) are now available at the gallery. If you are interested in helping at some of the events during the year, please contact committee chair Linda Elliff at 25years@DelRayArtisans.org

Life Drawing - Open Sessions

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Clowning Around Art Exhibit

Runs through Sunday, August 27. This exhibit reveals the inner clown of local artists in fun, playful, sadistic, comedic, and tragic ways. Clowns evoke various emotions, from childlike whimsy to a carnival of crazy clowns. Join us in this happy and scary romp with a truly American genre. Details at DelRayArtisans.org


Childhood Passions Art Exhibit Opening Reception

Friday, September 1 from 7-9pm. What were you passionate about as a child? Was it playful, fun, and made you feel alive? This spirit is captured in the Childhood Passions exhibit as artists honor childhood passions that are lost as we grow up. Recapture the joy of a child. Join us at the opening reception to enjoy the artwork and meet the curators, artists, and other art appreciators. The exhibit runs September 1 – October 1, 2017. Partners in Art

Monday, September 11 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. This program is free of charge and open to all. Donations ($1–3) greatly appreciated. Time-Sensitive Requests

  • Seeking Volunteers for Twisted Masterpieces Auction at Port City Brewing Company
    DRA's third 25th anniversary event will be a party and fundraiser on Thursday, September 28 at Port City Brewing called: Twisted Masterpieces. This event will be a silent and live auction of artwork donated by DRA member masters. The live auction will be found furniture turned into masterpieces. The next planning meeting will be on August 14. To volunteer your time to help plan or staff the event, contact Kurt at facilities@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Seeking Director of Youth Programs
    You will be the brains behind youth programs during the year—especially the Youth Art Camps in July. This is a voting board position and requires attending monthly board meetings.   • Adopt-a-Park: Pick Up Litter
    Del Ray Artisans volunteers pick up litter in Colasanto Park, which is a part of the City of Alexandria's Adopt-a-Park program. Inspections are on Mondays, so Sunday is the best pick-up day but not a hard rule. We need volunteers to sign up for weekends now through November 30. If you are interested in assisting, contact Marlin with your preferred weekend at AdoptAPark@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Seeking Programs Co-Director
    The Programs Director is seeking someone to share her role. This is a rewarding way to meet your volunteer commitment. Interested members should contact Michele Reday Cook at Programs@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Web Posting Volunteers Needed
    The web posting team needs you! We're looking for volunteers to post exhibit and event information to Virginia.org and Northern Virginia Magazine websites. Web posting can be done from home at your convenience. It doesn't take a lot of time and is an easy way to earn volunteer hours. If interested, please contact Kate at k.gibney@hotmail.com

  • Curate/Coordinate an Exhibit outside the Gallery
    Del Ray Artisans’ Gallery Without Walls program is seeking volunteers to coordinate exhibits with specific venues. The program is flexible to incorporate your ideas and value your time. Contact Eileen at GWW@DelRayArtisans.org and Kathy at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Join the Curating Team!

  • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photographers Needed to Document Shows
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of each piece of artwork in a show (as well as some overall gallery shots) for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photograph Processing
    Seeking volunteers to process photos for our Flickr Photostream. Task involves cropping, downsizing, color correcting (if needed), and adding meta data (e.g. artist name, title, media, price, show). Must have Photoshop or comparable application. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Seeking Videographer / Film Maker
    Seeking a volunteer to record a Del Ray Artisans workshop and edit for online viewing. Alternative option is to create an online course explaining an art or art-related activity. Contact John at VP@DelRayArtisans.org

Art on the Avenue Seeking Artist Demonstrators

Are you interested in a hosting a demonstration booth at Art on the Avenue? The festival is held rain or shine on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Artists are invited to not only sell their work, but to actively demonstrate it throughout the day. This is a fun way to engage festival goers and to show off your art. The best part? The standard $195 artist tent-fee is waived for artist demonstrators! Previous demonstration booths include: painting, soap making, screen printing, sock puppet, quilting, card making, etc. If you are interested in applying for a tent, please submit an application.
