Grown up art camp

Call for Instructors: Grown-Ups Art Camp 2017

Deadline for Proposals Extended to Saturday, May 20. What would you like to teach this summer? Seeking instructors for classes & workshops at Del Ray Artisans gallery during Grown-Ups Art Camp (June 27-July 15). Curriculum includes visual arts, crafts, performing arts, artistic development, and more—for the experienced artist and the beginner, and all those who want to engage in and explore the arts. A New Beginning

A New Beginning Art Exhibit at VCA Alexandria

Runs through May 21. Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls program and VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital feature member artists' 2D works of art interpreting the theme "A New Beginning". The exhibit opened on January 29. Patrons may view the artwork at VCA Alexandria during regular business hours and at the discretion of hospital staff. Artists are donating 20% of the purchase price of sold pieces in an equal split between Del Ray Artisans and the VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital’s charity of choice, Veterans Moving Forward. DRCA T-Shirt Contest

Del Ray T-Shirt Contest (Del Ray Artisans Members Only)

Digital entries due: Sunday, May 21 by midnight. Del Ray Citizens Association is looking for T-Shirt Art for its next round of T-shirts. The submissions are open to Del Ray Artisans members only. The subject is open to your interpretation, but any relationship to the Del Ray neighborhood would be appreciated. Entry to this contest is by online submission. Member Meeting/Benefit Program: “The Criteria of Quality: A Juror’s Perspective” talk by Lisa Semerad

Tuesday, May 23 from 7-9pm. During the May member meeting Del Ray Artisans offers a program of interest to our membership. This year we have engaged well-known local artist and teacher, Lisa Semerad, to give a talk, “The Criteria of Quality: A Juror’s Perspective.” Ms. Semerad works in several different media and teaches drawing, figure drawing, colored pencil, pastel, oil and acrylic painting, and design and composition classes at The Art League School in Alexandria. During her presentation she will describe elements necessary for successful, engaging, and award winning artworks. Speak Your Mind Art Exhibit

Register for Youth Art Camp

Early Registration June 1. Register now for Del Ray Artisans 2017 Summer Art Camp! Youth ages 8-14 are invited to spend one week creating art and architecture, followed by a one-day gallery show. All art supplies and snacks are provided. Choose week: July 17-21 or July 24-28. Fee: until June 1-$300/child; after June 1-$325/child. Scholarships may be available upon request. Del Ray Artisans turns 25 in 2017!

2017 is the year of Del Ray Artisans 25th Anniversary! Celebrate with our new 25th Anniversary T-shirts. T-shirts sizes small through XL ($25 each) and XXL ($27 each) are available at the gallery. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Wednesday, May 24 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, May 24 from 6:30-9:30pm (Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, June 7 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, June 7 from 6:60-9:30pm (Long Pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. First Thursday

Thursday, June 1 from 6-9pm. First Thursday is a Del Ray community event sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association from 6-9pm along Mount Vernon Avenue. The theme for this First Thursday is Health & Wellness. The gallery stays open until 9pm on First Thursdays from April through September. Call for Proposals: 2018 Art Exhibits at Del Ray Artisans

Proposals due: Thursday, June 1 by midnight. Del Ray Artisans is currently soliciting show proposals for 2018. Del Ray Artisans strives to offer exhibits that reach a broad and diverse audience, encourage artistic development, and represent a wide variety of art forms. The show proposal committee will review all proposals and make recommendations to the Board for final approval. “Red, White and Tuna” Theater Night

Friday, June 2 from 6:30-10pm. Join us at The Little Theatre of Alexandria (LTA) for a special reception hosted by Del Ray Artisans and first showing of “Red, White and Tuna” by LTA actors. The reception starts at 6:30pm and features heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine and refreshments, with a Champagne intermission later in the evening. The curtain goes up at 8pm. Tickets (just $45 each) for this special Theater Night will only be sold through Del Ray Artisans. Tickets can be purchased at the gallery or online: DelRayArtisans.org/LTA


Thanks For All The Fish Art Exhibit Opening Reception

Saturday, June 3 from 7-9pm. Thanks For All The Fish exhibit showcases the best artwork of members who have made exceptional volunteer contributions to support Del Ray Artisans. Come see the finest work by our most giving artists! Join us at the opening reception on Saturday, June 3, 7-9pm to meet the artists and enjoy the art they share. Partners in Art

Monday, June 5 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group.     The web posting team needs you! We're looking for volunteers to post exhibit and event information to Virginia.org and Northern Virginia Magazine websites.   • Photographers Needed to Document Shows

  • Seeking Videographer / Film Maker

Call for Artists: Art on the Avenue 2017

Submit application by June 1 (second round of jurying). Art on the Avenue is a multicultural arts festival organized by the Del Ray Community Partnership. The show welcomes applications from all craft artists and is known for high quality artwork. All work must be original, handmade, created and exhibited by the approved artist. Standard booth rate is $195. The event is Saturday, October 7 from 10am-6pm. Details: ArtontheAvenue.org/?p=1336


Call for Artists: Public Art Project at the Duke Street Tunnel

Deadline to apply: June 4. The City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts invites artists and artist teams living and working in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia to submit their qualifications for a temporary public art project for the Duke Street Pedestrian Concourse. Located south of the King Street Metro Station, the tunnel allows pedestrian traffic to travel between the metro station and the Carlyle neighborhood. Selected artist or artists team will need to have ability to work with a variety of mediums. Emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply. For more details and to apply, click here. Call for Artists: NVHG 2017 South Run Arts and Crafts Show

Application Deadline: May 1. Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild (NVHG) currently has openings for non-guild members to participate as vendors in their 10th annual 2017 South Run Show. The event will take place at the South Run RECenter (7550 Reservation Drive, Springfield, VA 22153) on Saturday, November 4 from 9am-4pm and Sunday, November 5 from 10am-4pm. Juried by the NVHG to ensure the highest quality and variety of handcrafted items, the show is an annual favorite for those searching for holiday gifts and unique art and crafts. The 7th Annual Herndon Town Calendar Photography Competition

Deadline: June 6 at 4pm. Artspace Herndon invites professional and amateur photographers to submit entries to the Herndon Town Calendar Photo Competition. Subjects for all entries must be located within the corporate limits of the Town of Herndon, and special consideration will be given to entries depicting people, representative of Herndon’s rich diversity and many cultures, participating in seasonal or community events. Call for Entries: Art of Engagement

Deadline: June 12. Touchstone Gallery in Washington DC is seeking entries for Art of Engagement, a National Juried Show scheduled for August 4-24. Artwork entries should reflect present-day issues and concerns. Be part of a national conversation about important issues using the universal language of art. Be bold, stand up, and speak out! Be an artist and an activist. Open to all artists living and/or working in the United States 18 years old and older. All original visual media that is the artist’s own concept, design, and work. Entry fees: $50 for up to 3 entries/images; artists may submit up to 3 additional entries/images at a cost of $10 per additional entry. Call for Vendors: Well Del Ray

Application deadline: June 15. The Del Ray Business Association (DRBA) presents the 3rd annual Well Ray festival, an outdoor celebration of health & wellness in Del Ray (Alexandria, VA). DRBA is highlighting practitioners who offer services including yoga, fitness programs, therapeutic massages, acupuncture, physical therapy, nutritional counseling, wellness coaching, meditation and energy work, and more. In addition, they are hosting vendors of wellness inspired fashion from local fitness clothing designers and boutiques. The event is Saturday, June 24 from 9am-1pm in the field next to Bean Creative at 2213 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Del Ray Farmer’s Market, the adjacent parking lot located behind United Bank at 2401 Mt.
