Streets Meets Glass

Streets Meets Glass Exhibit at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter (Final Weekend)

Exhibit runs through August 15. Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls program and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria team up to present this communion of two artists' diverse work that sizzles, pops, and purrs! Monday, August 15 from 7-8pm. As a part of the FUN-derful exhibit, join us for the Framing FUN-hows demonstration. Artist, curator, and framing expert Karen Schmitz will show you some framing tips and how to make “Squares” look amazing. Donation requested with some FUN giveaways!

Call for Applications: Holiday Market 2016

Digital application deadline: Friday, August 19. Applications for exhibitors in Del Ray Artisans' 21st Holiday Market to be held in December 2016 are now open. Artists from a variety of media categories will be selected and notified of acceptance by September 2. DRA members and non-members are eligible, so apply now! Members receive priority and a discount. Fire and Earth 3-d cup

Call for Entry: Fire and Earth Regional 2-D Exhibit

Digital entries deadline extended to Saturday, August 20. Fire and earth are two of the four elements. This exhibit celebrates these elements in a hybrid show that combines a National 3-D Ceramic Cup exhibit with a Regional 2-D exhibit. This exhibit honors how fire in the kiln (be it fueled by wood, gas, or electricity) transforms earth (clay) into functional drinking vessels (cups, mugs, tankards, tumblers, goblets, and tea bowls). Artwork receiving for accepted exhibit artwork is on Sunday, August 28 and Monday, August 29 from 6-8pm. Read all entry details carefully. Show runs September 2 - October 2, 2016. Cookbook fundraiser

Call for Recipes and Artwork: Cookbook Fundraiser

Submissions due via email by September 5. Del Ray Artisans is preparing a cookbook to sell during the holiday season and thereafter. Help raise funds for our nonprofit by sending your recipes for that hearty soup, the cocktail that inspires you to paint, your mother in law’s signature hors d’oeuvres, or the pie you brought to the member meeting. Recipes are being sought for these categories: Beverages; Appetizers and Snacks; Sauces, Soups, and Stews; Entrees; Side Dishes; and Desserts. We are also soliciting digital images of members’ artwork to put on the cookbook’s divider pages. Details and form at DelRayArtisans.org/category/cfe

Hiring Assistant Office Manager

Del Ray Artisans’ Personnel Committee is seeking to hire an Assistant Office Manager for the organization. This is a paid position on Thursdays and Fridays, 12-6 pm. Position entails greeting visitors and general office work with emphasis on organizational skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Sunday, August 21 from 9:30-11:30am (Gesture)
  • Wednesday, August 24 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, August 24 from 6:30-9:30pm (Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, September 7 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, September 7 from 6:30-9:30pm (Long Pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Call for Entry: Fire and Earth 2-D Marketplace

Online submission of artwork information due: Friday, August 26 at noon. Artists with pieces selected for the 2-D Fire and Earth exhibit are invited to also submit 2-D artwork for the Art-to-Go Marketplace. "Art-to-Go" refers to selected artworks that can be purchased and taken home immediately by the buyer. All marketplace artwork does not need to relate to the show’s theme. FUN-derful Art Exhibit

Exhibit runs through August 28. Lookie! Lookie! The Main Attraction show is FUN-derful with humorous FUN art. This exhibit features artwork from local artists guaranteed to put a BIG smile on your face. The Sideshow mini-FUN-raiser "Can You Spare a Square?" features artwork on small squares donated by artists to benefit Del Ray Artisans. Details: DelRayArtisans.org


Partners in Art

Monday, September 12 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. This program is free of charge and open to all. Donations ($1–3) greatly appreciated. Call for Entry: Local Flavor Art Exhibit (Members Only)

Digital entries due: Thursday, September 22. When you’re not in town, what do you miss? What do you crave? Does your “local” have a taste or feel? Capture an experience, mood or vibe from your neck of the woods, and express this in a big way. Artists are encouraged to explore their minds and their daily life for inspiration for this exhibit. The curator is looking for art that is vibrant, engaging, warm, and welcoming. This is an all-member show, and the theme is meant to be fairly broad. Your Del Ray Artisans membership must be up-to-date. Artwork receiving for accepted exhibit artwork is on Sunday, October 2 and Monday, October 3 from 6-8pm. Show runs October 7-30, 2016. Call for Entry: "Birdhouses of Del Ray" Silent Auction Fundraiser

Drop off October 2 and October 3 from 6-8pm. Looking for artists to design an artistic birdhouse for a Del Ray Artisans' fundraiser. Create your own birdhouse from the materials of your choice or purchase one of our wooden 'blanks' to decorate and embellish and to donate to DRA. Select a 'blank' birdhouse model of your choice ($3-10), beginning at the August 7 Member Meeting, until they are gone.   • Adopt-a-Park: Pick Up Litter
    Del Ray Artisans volunteers pick up litter in Colasanto Park, which is a part of the City of Alexandria's Adopt-a-Park program. Inspections are on Mondays, so Sunday is the best pick-up day but not a hard rule. We need volunteers to sign up for weekends now through November 30. If you are interested in assisting, contact Marlin with your preferred weekend at AdoptAPark@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Web Posting Volunteers Needed
    Looking for an at-home way to earn volunteer hours? Help post exhibit and event information to the WETA and Eventful websites. The time commitment is usually minimal and can be done from your own computer anywhere! For more information contact Betsy at egmead@gmail.com

  • Curate/Coordinate an Exhibit outside the Gallery

  • Join the Curating Team!
    Volunteer to curate or assist a curator (hanging artwork, data entry / spreadsheets, distributing postcards, people skills). Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Kathy at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Help Curators design their Postcard
    Postcards contain the vital show information: show title, dates, reception information, any special events and other information the curators wish to highlight. Help curators put together this file for the printer. Must have access to software capable of creating printer-ready files (e.g. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and be able to email documents.   • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photographers Needed to Document Shows

  • Seeking Videographer / Film Maker

Call for Entry: Root to Bloom: Place Artists Call Home Exhibit at Principle Gallery

Digital Entries due September 28. Principle gallery invites entries of paintings that are of the featured artists’ place they call “home.” Washington DC artist, Teresa Oaxaca will be the juror.
