VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital Art Show (Final Weekend)
Runs through January 31. VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital at 2660 Duke Street has joined Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls family. On August 30 the curator hung the first show featuring art by Del Ray Artisans members selected from past shows. Artwork is displayed in the waiting areas and examination rooms. All aBoard Art Exhibit Opening Reception
Friday, February 5 from 7-9pm. All aBoard board showcase takes patrons on a journey around Del Ray Artisans gallery to view works of eight Board members: Ron Blank, Michele Reday Cook, Kim S. Joy, Stephen Lally, Marlin Lord, Elizabeth Guerry Mead, Kathy Turner, and Joan Woodill. Artists showcase work in unique mediums, with no two alike. Patrons take artwork home when purchased! Annual Art Swap and Member Meeting
Sunday, February 7 from 3-5pm. Treasure or Trash? Dig out those unused art supplies and bring them to the Annual Art [Supplies] Swap! In exchange for contributing an artsy item, you will get to take some treasures home. It's a fun event and one of DRA's most popular. Light refreshments will be served. Questions? Card Makin’ Party
Monday, February 8 from 6-9pm. Celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Monkey making your own greeting cards for Valentine’s Day! Hostesses Theresa Kulstad and Karen Schmitz will provide lots of materials and plenty of enthusiasm. Donations appreciated for take home cards, and “cardies” are encouraged to make “All Occasion” cards to donate to DRA for sale. No experience needed, no registration required, and all ages welcome. Partners in Art
Monday, February 8 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. This program is free of charge and open to all. Donations ($1–3) greatly appreciated. Life Drawing - Open Sessions
- Wednesday, February 10 from 11am-1pm (Gesture)
- Wednesday, February 10 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose)
- Wednesday, February 10 from 6:30-9:30pm (Long Pose)
These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Build a Beast Workshop
Monday, March 7 from 6-9pm. Do you doodle? Have you ever wanted to see your doodles become 3D? Draw some quick wacky fantasy beasts and then make them 3D in stuffed fabric. Generative Digital Art Program
Monday, March 14 from 7-8pm. Curious about cutting edge digital art? Come, listen, and watch as presenter Cameron Turner explains and shows how he generates imagery from computer programs and mathematical formulae resulting is fantastic 2D and 3D art forms. Silly Hat Workshop

Digital entries due Sunday, February 20. Del Ray Artisans invites all artists to submit your best and brashest art—big or small. This over the top art show is all about excess, don't be shy. Surrealism: A Photography Exhibition at Del Ray Artisans Gallery
Digital entries due Saturday, March 19. Push beyond accepted conventions of reality by representing in photography the irrational imagery of dreams and the unconscious mind... disorienting realist imagery often based on fantasy, nightmares, hallucination, and figments of the imagination. Artists are invited to submit original, two-dimensional photographic images. The final and accepted artwork may not be larger than 20" x 30" including framing and matting. Show runs May 6-29, 2016. Call for Instructors: Grown-Ups Art Camp 2016
Proposals due Friday, April 1. Seeking instructors for a diverse array of programs to be offered June 27-July 15, 2016. We will serve up visual art workshops (painting, photography, pen & ink, mixed media, digital, etc), crafts (knitting, crocheting, sewing and more), performing arts (music, dance techniques, improv, spoken word, etc), as well as artist development (journaling, writing an Artist Statement, how-to-frame, 'where to find inspiration', etc). We are offering creative play, education and growth to experienced artists, as well as beginners and those non-artist types who just want to engage and explore in the arts. Communications

- Post our Events on assigned Online Calendars
Post approved DRA publicity materials on a specific online calendar. Each volunteer will have one or two calendars to update; instructions will be given. Must have internet access. Contact Dawn at Technology@DelRayArtisans.org
Curating & Curator Support
- Join the Curating Team!
Volunteer to curate or assist a curator (hanging artwork, data entry / spreadsheets, distributing postcards, people skills). Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Kathy at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
- Help Curators design their Postcard
Postcards contain the vital show information: show title, dates, reception information, any special events and other information the curators wish to highlight. Help curators put together this file for the printer. Must have access to software capable of creating printer-ready files (e.g. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and be able to email documents. - Event Photography
Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
- Photographers Needed to Document Shows
Seeking volunteers to take photos of each piece of artwork in a show (as well as some overall gallery shots) for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
- Photograph Processing
Seeking volunteers to process photos for our Flickr Photostream. Task involves cropping, downsizing, color correcting (if needed), and adding meta data (e.g. artist name, title, media, price, show). Must have Photoshop or comparable application. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
- Seeking Videographer / Film Maker
Seeking a volunteer to record a Del Ray Artisans workshop and edit for online viewing. Alternative option is to create an online course explaining an art or art-related activity. Contact John at VP@DelRayArtisans.org

Call for Entry: All to Pieces Collage Exhibit
Deadline extended to February 1 at 11pm. This show, open to all artists, will be juried for creative use of collage materials in the composition, design, and quality of overall work. Collage, French for pasting, is derived from colle, paste; from classical Greek kola, glue. Show runs February 10-March 8, 2016 at ArtSpace Falls Church. Call for Artist Vendors: 2016 Annual Herb and Craft Sale
Deadline: Friday, March 11. Friends of Carlyle House Historic Park, 121 N Fairfax Street, Alexandria, is looking for vendors to participate in the 2016 Annual Herb and Craft Sale. The event will take place, rain or shine, Saturday, April 23, 2016, 8-4pm. Vendors who sell handcrafted products/artwork, preferably with garden landscape or local themes are welcome to apply. Space, tables, and chairs may be rented: 8'x8' space, $100; 8' table, $10; and chairs $5 each. Deadline to reserve space and tables is Friday, March 11, 2016. This show celebrates one of the most basic elements of art, the line—curved, bent, thick, thin, wide, broken, vertical, horizontal—in whatever form it may take. Line upon line, idea upon idea, medium upon medium, the works selected for this show will be judged on composition, overall design, artistic skill, and creativity.
