2016 Wall Calendar & Coloring Book - Limited number left!

The 2016 Wall Calendar featuring artwork by 45 talented Del Ray Artisans artists is now available at the gallery for just $18/calendar. Del Ray Artisans events, community events, national holidays, and major religious holidays are noted. Del Ray Artisans also presents a Coloring Book for Grown-Ups featuring 40 works of art for you to color! Available now at the gallery for just $15/book. All proceeds benefit Del Ray Artisans. Get them at the Holiday Market—your last chance in 2015!

Gallery Closed for the Holidays

The gallery will be closed December 24 through January 3. Artwork entries for True Colors are due December 23 through the online entry form. Artwork drop off for accepted entries is on January 3 and 4 from 6-8pm. Regular gallery hours resume on Thursday, January 7; and the next opening reception is on Friday, January 8 from 7-9pm. True Colors

True Colors: Like a Rainbow Art Exhibit Opening Reception

Friday, January 8 from 7-9pm. The gallery will be blooming with color this January as Del Ray Artisans' artists interpret colors of the rainbow in this bright art exhibit. Artists have used these colors for centuries for inspiration. Come and see how our Del Ray Artisans artists interpret "True Colors"! Show runs January 8-31, 2016. Details: DelRayArtisans.org/True


MARK YOUR CALENDAR

Polymer Clay Workshop

Sunday, January 10 from 1-5pm. Join Ken and Sue Reed as they share their knowledge of polymer clay techniques! Students will learn the basics of working with polymer clay and “blending”—going from one color to another! No experience is necessary and students will go home with a small jewelry or sculpture project. Workshop is at Del Ray Artisans gallery, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave, Alexandria. Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Wednesday, January 13 from 11am- 1pm (Gesture)
  • Wednesday, January 13 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Pose)
  • Wednesday, January 13 from 6:30-9:30pm (Long Pose)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Introduction to Wire Jewelry Workshop

Thursday, January 14 from 7-9pm. Jewelry artist Tamara Wilkerson will take students into the intricate and exciting world of wire jewelry. Students will experiment with different tools and wire sizes, while creating basic, colorful, and useful jewelry components. No experience is necessary and students will go home with finished jewelry pieces. Workshop is at Del Ray Artisans gallery, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave, Alexandria. VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital Art Show

Runs through January 16. VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital at 2660 Duke Street has joined Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls family. On August 30 the curator hung the first show featuring art by Del Ray Artisans members selected from past shows. Artwork is displayed in the waiting areas and examination rooms. Playing with Resin Workshop

Monday, January 18 from 6:30-9:30pm. Artist Tracy Wilkerson will share her “magic” with resin! Tracy will show students how to “play” with resin in a safe environment and learn the ins and outs of mixing resin and using it—as an adhesive, a covering, or the main medium. Secrets of the Paper Garden: Hand-dyed Paper Flowers Workshop

Sunday, January 24 from 1-4pm. Artist Debbie Smith Mezzetta is back with a new recipe for colorful paper flowers. Debbie will share her “secret” for making these colorful paper flowers using a paper that is unique, conveniently available, and inexpensive. (And, it goes great with coffee!) CALL FOR ENTRY

True Colors: Like a Rainbow (Members Only)

Digital entries due Wednesday, December 23. Del Ray Artisans invites member artists to use three or more colors of the rainbow in their artwork. The colors can be bold and bright or just a whisper on the canvas. Use other colors, color blends, black and white. The only rule is that the rainbow colors must be visible. Artwork depicting rainbows is acceptable, but must be portrayed artistically and in an unusual fashion. Call for Entry at: DelRayArtisans.org/CFE


Around the Next Corner at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter (Members Only)

Digital entries due Sunday, January 17. Del Ray Artisans (DRA) invites member artists to submit 2D artworks expressing the theme "Around the Next Corner" to be displayed on the walls of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria's (AWLA) Vola Lawson Animal Shelter from January 31 through May 15, 2016. This is a fundraising exhibit (40% donation split evenly between AWLA and DRA) through Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls program. Call for Entry at: DelRayArtisans.org/CFE


Partnerships at VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital (Members Only)

Digital entries due Sunday, January 17. Del Ray Artisans (DRA) invites member artists to submit 2D artworks expressing the theme "Partnerships" to be displayed on the walls of the VCA Animal Hospital from January 31 through May 15, 2016 through Del Ray Artisans' Gallery Without Walls program. When artwork sells, artists are asked to make a 20% donation split evenly between Del Ray Artisans and VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital's charity of choice: Veteran's Moving Forward. Communications

  • Edit and/or layout The Well-Crafted Word newsletter
    Interested in being the newsletter editor and/or laying out Del Ray Artisans monthly newsletter? To volunteer or request more details, contact Betsy at Communications@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Post our Events on assigned Online Calendars
    Post approved DRA publicity materials on a specific online calendar. Each volunteer will have one or two calendars to update; instructions will be given. Must have internet access. Contact Dawn at Technology@DelRayArtisans.org

Curating & Curator Support

  • Join the Curating Team!
    Volunteer to curate or assist a curator (hanging artwork, data entry / spreadsheets, distributing postcards, people skills). Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Kathy at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Help Curators design their Postcard
    Postcards contain the vital show information: show title, dates, reception information, any special events and other information the curators wish to highlight. Help curators put together this file for the printer. Must have access to software capable of creating printer-ready files (e.g. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and be able to email documents. Helpful skills: creative design and content proofing. Contact Kathy at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org

Photography & Video

  • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photographers Needed to Document Shows
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of each piece of artwork in a show (as well as some overall gallery shots) for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photograph Processing
    Seeking volunteers to process photos for our Flickr Photostream. Task involves cropping, downsizing, color correcting (if needed), and adding meta data (e.g. artist name, title, media, price, show). Must have Photoshop or comparable application. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Seeking Videographer / Film Maker
    Seeking a volunteer to record a Del Ray Artisans workshop and edit for online viewing. Alternative option is to create an online course explaining an art or art-related activity. Contact John at VP@DelRayArtisans.org

Art-o-mat® machines, located throughout the United States, are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend individual, small-sized art. The machines provide a unique and inexpensive art source for beginning art collectors. There are about 400 contributing artists currently involved in the Art-o-mat® project and the company is always searching for fresh work. Call for Artist Vendors: 2016 Annual Herb and Craft Sale

Deadline: Friday, March 11. Friends of Carlyle House Historic Park, 121 N Fairfax Street, Alexandria, is looking for vendors to participate in the 2016 Annual Herb and Craft Sale. The event will take place, rain or shine, Saturday, April 23, 2016, 8-4pm. Vendors who sell handcrafted products/artwork, preferably with garden landscape or local themes are welcome to apply. Space, tables, and chairs may be rented: 8'x8' space, $100; 8' table, $10; and chairs $5 each. Deadline to reserve space and tables is Friday, March 11, 2016.
