Station X

Building Bridges Silent Auction proceeds benefit Six Degrees Consortium, a 501(c)3 non-profit (Auction ends Saturday)

Runs through Saturday, June 27. Via Delarosa is a piece of art that is composed of storm debris from Hurricane Katrina. A sister from Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis recovered a hand-carved station of the cross from the damaged church, and gave it to artist Lori K. Gordon. Gordon restored the damaged wood and combined it with a fragment of a carpet that was salvaged from the beach near Our Lady. Gordon chose the carpet fragment to represent the ruined homes of Gulf Coast residents; and the copper elements (also storm debris) were inspired by the story of the old woman and her pieces of copper in Mark 12:42. The piece is part of Gordon's "Katrina Collection" which can be found in private and public collections around the world. Come to Del Ray Artisans gallery to bid on this unique and touching piece of art. For information on the work of Lori K. Gordon, visit: www.lorikgordon.org

CALL FOR ENTRY

Au Naturel

Digital Submissions Due: Sunday, July 26. Celebrate the natural and exposed, the pure and untouched, the bare and raw, and the candid. Share your interpretation of “natural,” whether it is a figure, object, emotion or feeling; an uncompleted project or unintentional step in the process. Think of expressions with no covering or filter; objects or beings in full exposure; and objects that are in their truest and most candid form and natural state. Art can be in 2-D or 3-D format and ready to hang or display. This Call for Entry is an online form. All entries must be received digitally. Details and entry form at: DelRayArtisans.org/CFE

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 12 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

Time-Sensitive Requests

  • Volunteers needed for Grown-Ups Art Camp
Set up: Monday, June 29 from 12-5:30pm. We need a few helpers to get the gallery ready for GUAC - moving benches, putting curtains up, prepping the kitchen, tables/chairs out, hanging the Instructor Art Show, prepping the Art Yard Sale, stuff like that.

Volunteer front desk: During workshops June 29-July 17, we need volunteers to man the front desk (greet visitors, process sales and workshop registrations, etc).

Instructor helpers: Some instructors need a helper to run their workshop - although you can't actually do the work in the workshop while helping, you can definitely learn a lot!

Take down: Friday, July 17 from 12-6pm (or sooner). What was done must now be undone! (and readying the gallery for the kids Art Camp)

Please contact Tracy at GUAC@DelRayArtisans.org and let her know what you’d like to help with and your availability.
  • Sidewalk Sale coordinator & volunteers
The Alexandria Sidewalk Sale is on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2 in Old Town and Del Ray. Del Ray Artisans has art supplies to offer for sale during this event. We use this opportunity to earn some funds to support our mission and help bring in more visitors to the gallery. We would like a volunteer coordinator to help plan any additional event advertising and needs. We need volunteers to set up the outdoor tent, move the art supplies from inside to outside, and "man the booth" on both days. If you are interested in helping, contact Dawn at Technology@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Adopt-a-Park: Pick Up Litter
Del Ray Artisans volunteers pick-up litter in Colasanto Park, which is a part of the City of Alexandria's Adopt-a-Park program. Inspections are on Mondays, so Sunday is the best pick-up day but not a hard rule. We need volunteers to sign up for weekends now through November 30th. If you are interested in assisting, contact Marlin with your preferred weekend at AdoptAPark@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Join the 2015 Board of Directors
We have two open Board Positions: Director of Fundraising Events and Director of Youth Programs. If you are interested one of the positions or in assisting a sitting director, contact Kim at President@DelRayArtisans.org

Communications

  • Layout The Well-Crafted Word newsletter
Interested in laying out Del Ray Artisans monthly newsletter? To volunteer or request more details, contact Betsy at Communications@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Post our Events on assigned Online Calendars
Post approved DRA publicity materials on a specific online calendar. Each volunteer will have one or two calendars to update; instructions will be given. Must have internet access. Contact Dawn at Technology@DelRayArtisans.org

Curating & Curator Support

  • Join the Curating Team!
Volunteer to curate or assist a curator (hanging artwork, data entry / spreadsheets, distributing postcards, people skills). Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Help Curators design their Postcard
Postcards contain the vital show information: show title, dates, reception information, any special events and other information the curators wish to highlight. Help curators put together this file for the printer. Must have access to software capable of creating printer-ready files (e.g. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and be able to email documents. Helpful skills: creative design and content proofing. Contact Lesley at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org

Photography & Video

  • Event Photography
Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photographers Needed to Document Shows
Seeking volunteers to take photos of each piece of artwork in a show (as well as some overall gallery shots) for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Seeking Videographer / Film Maker
Seeking a volunteer to record a Del Ray Artisans workshop and edit for online viewing. Alternative option is to create an online course explaining an art or art-related activity. Contact John at VP@DelRayArtisans.org

Programs

  • Help plan workshops and events for Del Ray Artisans
We are looking for volunteers who are interested in supporting and/or helping design and schedule workshops and events at the gallery. If interested, please contact Tamara at Programs@DelRayArtisans.org
