Recipe for Collage

Pop-up Workshop: Recipe for Collage

Monday, March 23 from 7-9:30pm. This workshop is for all skill levels. We will be whipping up layers of patterns, colors and images to create interesting collage. Like any recipe, there will be ingredients, tools and extras to spice things up. We provide the tools, ingredients and techniques. You can provide your personal touches that will spice it up to your taste. Workshop fee: $40 members / $50 non-members. Plus $10 supplies fee. Instructors: Theresa Kulstad & Karen Schmitz. Dream On Art Exhibit

18th Annual Student Art Exhibition

18th Annual Student Art Exhibition Opening Reception

Friday, April 10 from 7-9pm. Del Ray Artisans and the T.C. Williams High School Art Department present the 18th Annual Student Art Exhibition, featuring artwork from T.C. Williams High School students, with special recognition given to members of the National Art Honor Society. Silent auction to benefit the Ted Eichers Scholarship Fund. Details: DelRayArtisans.org

Life Drawing - Open Sessions

  • Sunday, March 22 from 9:30-11:30am (Gesture)
  • Wednesday, March 25 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Poses)
  • Thursday, March 26 from 6:30-9:30pm (Long Poses)
  • Wednesday, April 1 from 11am-1pm (Gesture)
  • Wednesday, April 1 from 2-5pm (Short/Long Poses)

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Partners in Art

Monday, April 13 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then, come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. SocialLights

Tuesday, April 21 from 7-9pm. Whether creating a collaborative piece, sharing ideas on current art events, or brainstorming for the next show, this informal program is designed to provide a positive and motivational environment for artists to network and share ideas. Spring2ACTion: Support Del Ray Artisans

Wednesday, April 22 is Alexandria's Giving Day. Spring2ACTion is a 24-hour giving event to benefit Alexandria nonprofits. Paws 'N Claws for Art exhibit at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter

Show runs through May 31. Del Ray Artisans and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria present this fundraising exhibit featuring animal-themed artwork from member artists. Both nonprofit organizations receive a percentage of each sale. Also showing, but not for sale, will be UpCycle's Fur-Vor project community-based student-recycled dog art. CALL FOR ENTRY

Art and Story at Shirlington Library (DRA Members Only)

Digital entries due: TODAY (Friday, March 20). Del Ray Artisans (DRA) Gallery Without Walls program will have a month-long (March 29 - April 26, 2015) show at the Shirlington branch of the Arlington Public Library (4200 Campbell Ave, Arlington VA). The curator is requesting artwork that is inspired by or tells a good story. Only DRA members are eligible. Call for Entry at: DelRayArtisans.org/CFE


Call for Instructors: 2015 Grown-Ups Art Camp

Digital entries due: Monday, March 30. We are looking for instructors to teach any range of visual techniques (painting, photography, pen & ink, mixed media, etc), performing arts (dance techniques, improv, spoken word, etc) as well as artist development (writing an Artist Statement, how-to-frame, 'where to find inspiration', etc). You can instruct beginners or those with more experience. Workshops will be held June 29 through July 17, 2015; include your availability in the application. Application at: DelRayArtisans.org/CFE


Call for Artists: Art on the Avenue on October 3

Application deadline for discounted rate: April 1. Art on the Avenue is an annual multicultural arts festival along Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray (Alexandria, VA) on the first Saturday in October. This event is organized by the Del Ray Community Partnership. The show welcomes applications from all craft artists and is known for high quality artwork. All work must be original, handmade, created and exhibited by the approved artist. Standard booth rate is $175 ($160 for Del Ray Artisans & students) if postmarked by April 1. MIX: Adventures in Mixed Media at Del Ray Artisans

Receiving: Sunday, April 26 and Monday, April 27 from 6-8pm. COMBINE two or more mediums and SHAKE UP your imagination. Mixed media compositions can convey visuals that are quirky, abstract, political, environmental and social. THINK: Paint, Graphite, Textiles, Jewelry, Found Objects, Collage, Sculpture, Shadowboxes, Altered Books and beyond. Del Ray Artisans and Artistic Artifacts have teamed up to create this collaborative juried exhibit. The juror is Rosalee Lamanna. Call for Entry at: DelRayArtisans.org/CFE


CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Del Ray Artisans members are required to volunteer for at least 12 hours per year to support the organization and its mission. Below are some volunteer opportunities.

Administration

  • Seeking volunteers for office help
    The office staff needs helpers for various office tasks this spring, such as shredding, labeling, filing, stuffing, etc. None of these tasks are physically taxing and while most need to be done during the weekday when office staff is onsite, a couple tasks can be done "off-site".   • Edit and/or Layout The Well-Crafted Word newsletter

  • Post our Events on assigned Online Calendars
    Post approved DRA publicity materials on a specific online calendar. Each volunteer will have one or two calendars to update; instructions will be given. Must have internet access. Contact Dawn at Technology@DelRayArtisans.org

Curating & Curator Support

  • Join the Curating Team!
    Volunteer to curate or assist a curator (hanging artwork, data entry / spreadsheets, distributing postcards, people skills). Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Help Curators design their Postcard
    Postcards contain the vital show information: show title, dates, reception information, any special events and other information the curators wish to highlight. Help curators put together this file for the printer. Must have access to software capable of creating printer-ready files (e.g. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and be able to email documents. Photography & Video

  • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photographers Needed to Document Shows
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of each piece of artwork in a show (as well as some overall gallery shots) for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Seeking Videographer / Film Maker
    Seeking a volunteer to record a Del Ray Artisans workshop and edit for online viewing. Alternative option is to create an online course explaining an art or art-related activity. Contact John at VP@DelRayArtisans.org

OTHER REGIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS

Touchstone Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists 2015-2017

Applications due by March 30. Artists living in the DC capital region are eligible to apply for the Emerging Artists Fellowship if they have not been represented by a commercial gallery in the previous 10 years. Touchstone Gallery is an artist-owned commercial gallery located in the heart of downtown DC at 901 New York Avenue NW. The Gallery created the independent Touchstone Foundation for the Arts (TFA) in 2012 in order to expand a commitment to community involvement. No application fee. Call for Mural Proposals

Deadline: March 31. This is an open call for artists to design and execute a mural to cover the exterior of the Torpedo Factory Art Center loading dock. Open to all local and regional professional artists living in the DMV area. The selected muralist will be awarded $4,000, with a supply budget of up to $2,000. Proposal selection will be conducted by an independent arts professional in consultation with the Torpedo Factory Art Center CEO. Details at: torpedofactory.org/opportunities/call-for-entries/


Call for Entry: radius 250 2015

Online/Postmark Deadline: April 6. artspace's 6th installment of their biennial juried regional exhibition, open to artists working within a 250-mile radius of Richmond, VA. Entry fee of $25 for three (3) entries. Prizes: UP TO $1000 and a solo exhibition in artspace's Helena Davis Gallery will be awarded at the discretion of the juror, Amy Moorefield. Show runs May 22 - July 19, 2015 in the artspace gallery in Richmond's Manchester Arts District. Details at: artspacegallery.org/radius250/


Call for Entry: Printmaking Show at ArtSpace Falls Church

Digital Submission Deadline: Monday, April 27 by midnight. All artists are invited to submit works in any printmaking discipline, such as linocut, woodcut, screen print, drypoint, etching, mono print, collograph, and serigraph.
