Art Supplies Swap & Member Meeting (This Sunday)

Sunday, February 22 from 3-5pm is the annual Art Supplies Swap and Member Meeting. Gather any art supplies you are not using. Trade them for different art supplies another member is not using! Paws n Claws

Paws ‘N Claws for Art exhibit at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter

Reception: Friday, February 27 from 7-9pm. Del Ray Artisans and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria present this fundraising exhibit featuring animal-themed artwork from member artists. Both nonprofit organizations receive a percentage of each sale. Also showing, but not for sale, will be UpCycle’s Fur-Vor project community-based student-recycled dog art. Elements Art Exhibit

Show runs through March 1. This exhibit is Del Ray Artisans' Board of Directors Showcase featuring art by John Bordner, Kathryn Brown, Michele Reday Cook, Linda Elliff, Kim S. Joy, Marlin Lord, and Tamara Wilkerson. Artworks incorporate elements of earth, water, air, and fire in materials, media, and subject matter. Details: DelRayArtisans.org

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Dream On Art Exhibit

Opening Reception: Friday, March 6 from 7-9pm. Local artists use any media to explore and express their dreams artfully in the Dream On exhibit at Del Ray Artisans gallery. Using their imaginations, artists interpret their dreams—from weird to wonderful, scary to surreal. Show runs March 6-29, 2015. Details: DelRayArtisans.org


Partners in Art

Monday, March 9 from 2-4pm. Looking for a chance to get together with other creative people to discuss art and exchange ideas? Then, come to a meeting of our cooperatively led Partners in Art group. Dream On Pajama Party!

Saturday, March 14 from 7-10pm. What better way to celebrate a dream-themed art exhibit than with a pajama party at Del Ray Artisans gallery! Don't miss a night of fun and excitement, games, raffles and prizes! Show up in your pajamas or togas and get in for free! All others are charged a small $5 fee. SocialLights

Tuesday, March 17 from 7-9pm. Whether creating a collaborative piece, sharing ideas on current art events, or brainstorming for the next show, this informal program is designed to provide a positive and motivational environment for artists to network and share ideas. Pop-up Workshop: Recipe for Collage

Monday, March 23 from 7-9:30pm. This workshop is for all skill levels. We will be whipping up layers of patterns, colors and images to create interesting collage. Like any recipe, there will be ingredients, tools and extras to spice things up. We provide the tools, ingredients and techniques. You can provide your personal touches that will spice it up to your taste. Workshop fee: $40 members / $50 non-members. Plus $10 supplies fee. Instructors: Theresa Kulstad & Karen Schmitz. Dream On at Del Ray Artisans Gallery

Receiving: Sunday, March 1 and Monday, March 2 from 6-8pm. Weird, wonderful, surreal or scary, our dreams conjure images and influence feelings. A nocturnal adventure? Setting forth to follow your dreams? Either way, our dreams take us places that could be artfully explored. Let your dreams inspire your art. Archives/Documentation

  • Event Photography
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of Del Ray Artisans events for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Volunteer to photograph opening receptions, workshops, regular programs, or markets. We are hoping for around 10-20 photos from each event. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Photographers Needed to Document Shows
    Seeking volunteers to take photos of each piece of artwork in a show (as well as some overall gallery shots) for our archives and Flickr Photostream. Contact Sean at Archives@DelRayArtisans.org

  • Co-eNews Editor position open
    This weekly email filled with DRA news and local calls for entries doesn't write itself! Approximately 2-hour commitment per issue; must either know Microsoft Word or HTML. Work with the current eNews Editor to divide up the weeks. Great way to "stay in the know" about local art opportunities. Contact Liz at enews@DelRayArtisans.org.
  • Edit and/or Layout The Well-Crafted Word newsletter

  • Post our Events on assigned Online Calendars
    Post approved DRA publicity materials on a specific online calendar. Each volunteer will have one or two calendars to update; instructions will be given. Must have internet access. Contact Dawn at Technology@DelRayArtisans.org

Curating & Curator Support

  • Join the Curating Team!
    Volunteer to curate or assist a curator (hanging artwork, data entry / spreadsheets, distributing postcards, people skills). Experienced past curators especially needed, but all volunteers are welcome. Contact Lesley at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org
  • Help Curators design their Postcard
    Postcards contain the vital show information: show title, dates, reception information, any special events and other information the curators wish to highlight. Help curators put together this file for the printer. Must have access to software capable of creating printer-ready files (e.g. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and be able to email documents. Helpful skills: creative design, content proofing. Contact Lesley at Curating@DelRayArtisans.org

Call for Entry: 3-D Art Show at ArtSpace Falls Church

Digital Submission Deadline: Monday, February 23 by midnight. Open call to all artists. All three-dimensional media are eligible for this show - sculpture, assemblage art, paper construction, anything that is three-dimensional, whether freestanding, framed or hanging. Call for Artist Vendors: 2015 Annual Herb and Craft Sale

Application Deadline: Friday, March 13. The event is on Saturday, April 18 at Carlyle House Historic Park. Historic Garden Week in Virginia brings hundreds of people to Old Town. Carlyle House, across from City Hall, is a featured attraction. Shop for herbs, flowers handcrafted products, artwork, bake sale, book sale and more. Call for Entry: Printmaking Show at ArtSpace Falls Church

Digital Submission Deadline: Monday, April 27 by midnight. All artists are invited to submit works in any printmaking discipline, such as linocut, woodcut, screen print, drypoint, etching, mono print, collograph, and serigraph. Show runs May 18 - June 21, 2015 at ArtSpace Falls Church (410 S Maple Ave, Falls Church VA 22046). Details and submission form at: FallsChurchArts.org/falls-church-arts-show-schedule
